It is important to make sure that very graphic photos of somebody who was shot in the head are not floating around as an incitement to additional violence or as a propaganda tool," the president said in the interview.
We don’t need to spike the football and I think that given the graphic nature of these photos, it would create some national security risk,” he said. "We don't trot out this stuff as trophies."
Obama said there is “certainly” no doubt among al Qaeda members that bin Laden is dead so “we don’t think a photograph in and of itself is going to make any difference.”
The fact of the matter is, you will not see bin Laden walking on this earth again,” he added
Top U.S. intelligence officials have been increasingly divided over the benefits of releasing photos as proof that the al Qaeda leader was killed Sunday during a U.S. raid on his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.
First I supported Obama for president and despised "still do" the whole damn bush political machine so the "racist" card can't be played here.
Now, with that said I have to wonder how much more snarky the media and some other libs would be if the shoe were on the other foot. I wonder how much yelling for "media access" and "facism" would be made if the shoe were on the other foot. I will however defer to any veterans such as Don Ecker or others who actually fought and bled and would love to hear a veteran take on the subject.
Okay, since you asked ....
War is shit in it's purest form. It is mostly boredom mixed with moments of the most mind numbing horror you can imagine. It is watching friends that, in that moment, are closer than family, die. Guys you might never want to enter your home in a peaceful setting, but that you would risk your life for. And, they would do the same for you.
To try to explain the process to someone that never experienced it is impossible. 7 years ago I wrote a blog entry on "combat" because of a request then by my buddy and co-host on the first DMR, Dwight Schultz. The US had already gone into Iraq and the Left was going after Bush ... hammer and tong. Dwight wanted me to explain to the audience that the soldiers had nothing to say about where they are sent, and this was done in light of how US veterans were treated by the public upon returning from Viet Nam. You may or may not remember that but I do.
My attitude on war is this ... If you (the nation) enters a war .. you do it for one reason and one reason only ... to fucking win it! You win it in the absolutely shortest time possible ... which means you go in big and you go in rough ... and you kill every mother-fu*ker in your way that could be considered a combatant. You make the war too expensive for the other guy. You turn the job over to the professionals, the top military leadership, you get the Pelosi's, Reid's, the Grahams and the fucking lawyers out of the mix. The enemy we face today make a point to kill "soft targets", they bomb pizza parlors, shoping centers, vacation retreats, try to knock down airliners and God help us if they ever get their hands on a WMD and smuggle it into the US. If that happens, then we will see how the public feel about things like water boarding, putting panties on some captured turds head, or reading them their rights on the fucking battlefield.
According to the Geneva Convention these combatants are illegal anyway. A few years ago they could have been shot on the spot if captured on the battlefield as non-uniformed illegal combatants. They do not represent any nation, are civilians and carrying weapons and are murdering mostly civilians. When the bull shit starts here in the US, and I fear it will, lets see how the US public will react to all this PC horse shit.
Okay you asked, I answered.

Couldn't agree more Don. This PC horseshit is putting our military in great danger.
Wow, is all I can say. But I live in the Socialist Republic of Quebec and a lot of what happens to the south of me boggles my mind.
Well, for all of you folks that think my remarks were over the top, I simply have one question for you. How do you think we won World War II and in the process defeated Japan, Germany and Italy? Hmmm?
And did it in approx. 4 years?

I completely disagree with the statement that we go into war to win it in the shortest amount of time.
I think it is stunning that we managed to resolve WWII in such a comparatively short time. Th e present War on Terror seems for all practical purposes unwinable or unresolvable in any traditional sense. It seems to me we need to redefine it. We also need to get out of Afghanistan and Pakistan now and withdraw all aid to both of them. It is absolutely insane that we are paying these people off to the tune of billions of dollars.
The War on Terror basically classes anyone who doesn't agree with the USA as a enemy , the only way to finish it will be the collapse of the USA as a superpower
That's a pretty narrow view of things. You are kidding yourself if you think the "collapse of the USA as a superpower' would be good for anyone on the planet. What needs to happen is a change of policy and direction. Something that is theoretically possible in the United States. That is what everyone should hope for rather than "a collapse" of any nation much less the United States of America.
Sheesh.
