I recently listened to a philosophy podcast that covered this. Interesting stuff!

Since I recently rewatched the entire series, I was amazed how many episodes one or more of the main characters are dying/dead/in a hospital. Also, another common theme seemed to be "Vietnam vet comes back from the dead/is invisible/has mind powers and kills his commanding officers".

Ah, sheesh. I wonder though, it was so out of left field; how much of a joke it actually was.

The Mind-Body problem is still a pretty big deal with philosophers. I think Kant has taken some stabs at it. Maybe Schophenhauer, I don't remember. I know Sartre' has a book on consciousness and the ego which covers this extensively.
