“We need to get some broad based support, to capture the public’s imagination… So we have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements and make little mention of any doubts… Each of us has to decide what the right balance is between being effective and being honest.” — Prof. Stephen Schneider, Stanford Professor of Biology and Global Change. Professor Schneider was among the earliest and most vocal proponents of man-made global warming and a lead author of many IPCC reports. He is a member of the Club of Rome.
“We’ve got to ride this global warming issue. Even if the theory of global warming is wrong, we will be doing the right thing in terms of economic and environmental policy.” –Timothy Wirth, President of the UN Foundation and member of the Club of Rome.

“I believe it is appropriate to have an ‘over-representation’ of the facts on how dangerous it is, as a predicate for opening up the audience.” — Al Gore, member of the Club of Rome

On a more positive note it was great to hear the diverse voices and beliefs of the Paracast forum as represented by the four of you. I greatly appreciated hearing your love conversational voices. I hope that despite all the conspiracy talk of those evil environmentalists that want to stop people from driving cars downtown and take the bus or a bicycle instead, that the show itself continues to create listener roundtables. Perhaps these shows can be used to be less of a survey "what do you think about this" scenario and more of a poignant focus on issues pertinent to the phenomenon that continue to be debated on the forums.

First off, i was honoured to be invited to this one as a guest, but got Skype working a day too late.
A down time shunt via the 5th dimension from Zeta reticuli, and you'd think patching the mothership to a local version of skype would be easy ;)

You all did very well, was a fun episode

Best and worst episodes of the paracast ?..........

One was recorded in 2014 the other march of 2015................

:D

Ok, I've had a look at this volcano/man thing and it does seem I'm wrong. Can't remember where I had learned this 'fact' but I'm sure it was a science program! Looking at eruptions such as Krakatoa, they don't dump so much CO2 as they do things such as sulphur dioxide etc, sometimes causing temperature drops by blocking sunlight.

I think someone mentioned China, and I read the other day that in Beijing alone, there are one million government vehicles. So add all the privately owned cars etc and that is a heck of a lot of vehicles that were not there 15 years ago. China/India and the other fast-growing economies are just going to follow the exact same pattern of consumerism as we in the west did. There is only going to be a bigger demand on resources and it shows zero signs of slowing....

They finally found a way to tax the air we breath...........

Im all for best practise, but the carbon tax gives nothing to Gaia

That's a rather weird way of looking at it.

Clean air is not taxed, filthy air is taxed.

I always wonder about the reasons why people defend the shit that gives people cancer etc. Why would anyone defend that? How did this lop-sided thinking develop, why will people defend the perpetrators instead of demanding they do it right? They can do it right, if they are regulated to do so, history shows that to be the case. Think of all the regressive whining when lead-free gas was demanded. Yet it has probably had a huge impact on people's health (brain functions).

I believe the lop-sidedness is a matter cultural conditioning to protect big business and fat cats, because it neither makes ethical nor technical sense.

I'd recommend Edward Abbey's Desert Solitaire, it explains many of the mechanics of the conditioning. A most excellent, funny and outrageous book with some very serious thinking in there too.

Chris O'Brien you've probably heard of him? Your Paracast report from the 'lost city' of the Grand Canyon and the development of casinos reminded me so much of Abbey. And it saddened me to hear about it.

I was honored and privileged to be part of this panel. We could have talked for hours more and love the support and comments from fellow listeners and forum posters.

I can say I don't see the connection between the global warming topic and UFOs or the paranormal. Frankly was disappointed by the distraction thr global warming topic caused during the show and here as well. Aside from being some potential government conspiracy, I keep asking myself what does global warming have to do with UFOs or the paranormal? Maybe someone can enlighten me, but ultimately I did enjoy our sharing of personal experiences and opinions of UFOs and the paranormal when we spoke of them.

Peace,

J.

Thank you and thanks to the other forum members who participated in the Roundtable.

One of the most fascinating things to me about the Roundtable discussion was the personal testimony concerning unexplained sightings and experiences. I look forward to the next Roundtable and I hope that Mike will be able to participate. I agree that the global warming issue was not even close to being the most interesting topic discussed in the show.

I agree that global warming and Agenda 21 is boring, but right now it is a very important topic and the lives of millions depend on taking action against Agenda 21/ICLEI.

I appreciate your posts and I tend to agree with you on the subject, and I think that all participation in this Forum is a good thing, so long as we are all friendly and respectful even when we have sharp disagreements. But my hope is that we will not let any one topic dominate the discussion to the exclusion of other deserving topics. I mean, let's face it, if climate change debate starts to predominate, then the Forum will suffer.

The post-WW 2 mystery and cultural phenomenon of flying saucers and UFOs and possible alien visitation and the source of alien visitation is the raison d'être of The Paracast Show and Forum, because Gene Steinberg has been fortunate in his life to be part of this history and to meet and interact with so many of the other key participants over the years.

I enjoyed the show - I didn't agree with most of the views on Global Warming but no need to go into that here.

I've also heard a fraction of Paracast episodes so its always helpful when guests recommend old shows. Just listened to the one with Aaron Kaplan and laughed my ass off.

I agree, but I dislike it when well meaning environmentally oriented people spew forth disinformation.

A common theme professed by so-called "contactees" and "abductees" is that humans are de-gradating the eco-system of the planet and that the "ETs" are here to warn us about our negative footprint on the environment. Or something like that... I suppose that would include "global warming."

global warming and increased levels of CO2 is something i welcome. mammals flourish and plants thrive on warmth and CO2 levels in the 400 - 1200 ppm range.

I think were just postponing the inevitable we are in a stage between ice ages. I dont think that global warming is happlening as fast as people think look at all the weird weather changes.

It is my impression that new age thinking has influenced many of the 'contactees' and such, right?

The alien issue: I guess, if you think that there's 'unity' in the universe, you'd have to think that there are other beings there to unite with. And if all is basically 'good', those beings would want to help us and communicate with us in human terms, because of the supposed unity and goodness.
In that light, I wouldn't be surprised if New Agers are 'targeted' by story tellers.

The green stuff: New Age art often depicts a natural scene where people look kinda elf-like and in direct harmony with nature, and perhaps even space, that's my impression anyway.
Of course, that is not a realistic depiction of nature, it would probably take some alien intervention, or something more than that, to turn the world into New Age heaven!

And so, the reality is that the New Age world-view creates more problems than anything, in case you're trying to remain scientific, and argue scientifically, and that also goes for the biological and environmental issues.

And that certainly goes for ufology too imo, we can't really use belief and speculation for too much. The name of the game is that great discoveries await, but the problems seem endless getting there (if there is a 'there' in ufology).
Of course, that's also why I enjoy the Paracast, namely the active attempt to weed out the crap, to gain some overview, and build a reasonable platform for the present and the future. I mean, I'd rather hear some grand stories about cool aliens, sure.. But then again, if they're not credible stories, I'd rather not! Because they'll just be a distraction and add more chaos to the already difficult topic.
