Biomedical engineers at Cornell University in New York, led by Mike King, have isolated a protein that goes by the acronym of TRAIL that causes metastasizing cancer cells to implode on contact. TRAIL attaches itself to immune system white blood cells, circulates throughout the body, and whenever they bump into a cancer cell, that cancer cell will go on to die within a few hours, while at the same time leaving healthy normal cells alone. It turns out that this treatment has been in use for decades in Japan.
It was supposedly "fast tracked" in Canada about 2 years ago.

Could an "individualized approach" that avoids costly,
repetitive, drugs pose a threat to big-pharma
resulting in lobbying and delays?

Pretty neat picture. Nice to compare against the one Carl Sagan had Voyager take when it passed by Saturn. "Pale Blue Dot"

So what is happening to this therapy now? Anyone know? I'll definitely be doing research on this!
