sigh the return of the birthers...

Lol, as I said I have not followed this silly tempest in a teapot. I have to honestly say I have not examined the birth certificate or even listened to the arguments. That is why I said "I don't know." I "believe" he was born in the U.S. but then again I don't ask most people to prove that to me. So, if he has released the forms then that should be it. If there are questions then it's fine to disagree once you have all the facts. To be honest there would be civil war (really and truly) if they were to be able to prove he wasn't born here. Anyway, that's all I care to say on this silly subject. He is president for now and I don't see anybody on the other side that I would vote for. I may just abstain this time. Or I may not.

Here is a good link. FactCheck.org : Born in the U.S.A.
So, this should be put to bed. This looks to be legitimate. Don't mess with Hawaii. that's where my Degree comes from and I can honestly say it's great place to live. Matter of fact anybody that could choose to live anywhere they wanted to and chose Chicago (burrr) over Honolulu has to have something wrong with them. ;)

They are simply pointing to questionable claims in the ads. It doesn't matter who made those ads. They are just un-closeted fact checkers, that's all. :D

Do you have a clip of that, or is it just something you heard?

Actually you're wrong - Rick Mercer is REALLY funny. :) Also, if you don't watch him, how can you judge that is isn't that funny?
It's funny how you seem to be implying that being interested in social programs is a bad thing. You don't like having health care? You don't like allowing mothers to stay home with their child for a year? What about having access to education without astronomical tuition fees? How about equal rights for everyone, despite their sexual orientation? I'm pretty proud of the way my province voted during the last general election. You must live in Alberta or something....

As you can see by my editing I have found and added the clip -- after having heard it previously (which apparently is a bad thing -- to hear stuff and then repeat it).
I know this is now wandering completely off-subject, but I have to respond. Yeah, you're right I am from the great Province of Alberta. A province that is one of those rare breeds, a net contributor to the national purse. That said; I don't know why you have such an aversion to the term socialism; it's a fine term, I don't think of it as a negative or a derogatory term. In fact, as past president of one of the CUPE Locals it played a large role in the spending of my union dues. As I mentioned, I have been merely a Landed Immigrant for 30 years; my one time of voting was in the UK and it was for the Labour Party -- a socialist political party. But that's OK, you obviously apply the stigma that Americans do to those of that ilk -- are you sure you're a tollerant Canadian?
I love healthcare, my wife being able to stay home with our four children when they were born was great, my kids didn't mind taking student loans for their tuition fees, love the equal rights -- except I paid taxes and couldn't vote on tax-related plebiscites without Citizenship (but I got over it); having a gay child I appreciate that equal rights protect him; and I too am proud of the way my Province voted at the last election.
As far as Mercer though, I do take umbrage with you. Of course I have watched him; I don't watch him as a rule, like some may not watch Howie Mandel, Jim Carrey, Tom Green, Rich Little or Tommy Chong for their particular traits or lack of humour. For instance, Mercer's laughing along with Jean Chretien while reenacting the former Prime Minister's one-handed strangulation of a protester was meant to be funny http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWmtwviXxXI (actually watching it again, it was quite funny); but you know it would have been a serious political rant if it were a Conservative PM treating legitimate protesters that way. And jumping in a lake naked with an equally clothing-challenged Federal Liberal Party leader had its comedy short-comings too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1blymg20dw.
Oh yeah, 21 years in public housing in North London man and boy. Lived in trailers for a lot of my Canadian residency -- so I have my share of experiences at the low-end of the pecking order.

Guys - surely you have all worked out annoying part of their career path. Just watch as every politician bar none slowly go back on their promises. I think politics (the two party system) is just an illusion to keep us happy. No great conspiracy theory but really, when a republican was in and it changed to a democrat, how much did your lives really change? Uh-huh. And what about when a democrat was in and it changed to a republican? How much did your lives change?
Zip. Nothing really changes from one administration to another, regardless of the party.
There is no mystery in that the people who are giving all the advice and the ones who politicians go to for information are civil servants, they are in jobs long term regardless of the political persuasion of the current government. Different president, same civil servants, same advice, same stuff, different name.
I gave up voting a long time ago because there is only 2 parties in the UK with any realistic chance of power and it matters not a jot which one is in. blue or red, polka dot or stripe? It's all window dressing to make it look like we have an influence but really our influence is minimal. It is not a global conspiracy, just the way things are done in the world. Look at the last few administrations and find out how many of the secretaries are in the Council on Foreign Relations. They are all the same!
Something that would grab the attention of those in power would be a grass-roots demand that the civil service be shaken up and rearranged! BANG! Watch everyone run for cover then when they realise the public has finally saw thru the sham and window dressing and know where the tender parts are ripe for kicking into shape!
Long live the revolution......whenever it starts!

Haha really I am not bitter, just a bit jaded with it all. It's a monotonous merry-go-round and I became dizzy a long time ago. I'm not that old either! (30's)

Agreed; except for the civil servant bit ... I resemble that remark :). As far as two-party FPTP elections take a look at CPG Grey's YouTube Videos
-- very interesting. He's got a lot of other neat stuff (depoending whether your a loyalist Royalist or not).

@Jerry - thing is too- the fact it is a two party system is neither here nor there. things could change from one party to a second to a third and on and on and things would be the same, because those with the knowledge and real power do not change with the vote. Maybe it should? Which is my point basically! thanks for posting video.

I do feel as though my remark came off more snarky than it should have, and I apologize. It seemed as though you were kind of taking a shot the social programs we have, but I misinterpreted what you wrote.
With regards to Mercer, I find him funny, and I was just being silly by saying you were wrong.
Alberta's great by the way, just like all of our cities, provinces and territories (except for Toronto, they're so smug :)).

I was so proud of myself. I knew that Ottawa, Onterio was the capital. I haven't forgotten all my geography. Now, muh spillin is a diferent matter altogether. :p

You know, Firefox and Chrome both have a built in spell checker. Please don't tell me that you're using Internet Explorer - that's unforgivable.

I do use firefox and I have downloaded Chrome. So, I should be getting better. Of course the above spelling errors were kind of sort of on purpose. :p I'm also getting to where I slow down a little and actually proof read before I post. Not always, but sometime.

I knew those were a joke - I just can't let an opportunity to make fun of IE pass me by. I don't know why anyone would use it.

@Angelo - don't laugh. serious question, i have never used anything other than IE on a pc. what will be the benefit/improvement for me to use another web browser? (i'm not too into computers, i use them but not really into the nitty gritty as it were.
of course i would not ignore a worthwhile improvement!

so, pretend you work for firefox etc and SELL IT TO ME?
