White House Insider: The Obama Plan

Nanny state? Anyway, it is important to understand how the rest of the world perceives your country.
Canada is a pretty cool country by the way. Did you know we're your largest support of oil? Did you also know you guys buy a hell of a lot of hydro electricity from us too? Also, before you start knocking our way of doing things, look up any index of quality of life rankings and compare where you rank in comparison to all those crazy "socialist" countries.
As Gene says, peace.

Yeah, right sure we do....I only care that politicians uphold and defend the US Constitution, and I do not care what Foreigners think about us...You can keep your socialist system...and your nanny state....We do not have to "try" he makes himself look bad about three times a week...Dale

Well, that is an improvement over Bush. That jackass made a fool of himself at least twice daily.

Some of my favorite Bushisms.

1. "Tribal sovereignty means that; it's sovereign. I mean, you're a -- you've been given sovereignty, and you're viewed as a sovereign entity. And therefore the relationship between the federal government and tribes is one between sovereign entities." --Washington, D.C., Aug. 6, 2004

2. "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful - and so are we, they never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people - and neither do we." —Pentagon meeting, August 2004

3. "They want the federal government controlling Social Security like it's some kind of federal program." —St. Charles, Mo., Nov. 2, 2000

4. "It is clear our nation is reliant upon big foreign oil. More and more of our imports come from overseas." —Beaverton, Oregon, Sept. 25, 2000

5. "Families is where our nation finds hope, where wings take dream." —LaCrosse, Wis., Oct. 18, 2000

6. "I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully." —Saginaw, Mich., Sept. 29, 2000

7. "I know how hard it is for you to put food on your family." —Greater Nashua, N.H., Jan. 27, 2000

8. "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?" —Florence, S.C., Jan. 11, 2000

9. "Too many good docs are getting out of the business. Too many OB-GYNs aren't able to practice their love with women all across this country." —Poplar Bluff, Mo., Sept. 6, 2004

No one with intelligence? So Bill Gates, Steven Hawking, Richard Dawkins, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, etc are not intelligent? Really? Pixel, c'mon man, don't make ridiculous statements like that if you want people to listen to you.
Everytime you bring up global warming you end up looking like a fool.

you are the fool. you do not differentiate between catastrophic anthropogenic global warming and natural global warming.

Just incase you doubt me about the oil imports: Crude Oil and Total Petroleum Imports Top 15 Countries

i think we should buy more from canada and drill the crap outta alaska.

I'm still wondering how long it's going to take roughly one-third of America to realize WWII and the 1950's are over and done. We somehow seem to have become ideologically stuck there and the world is moving on.

in regards to humans causing catastrophic global warming via CO2 emissions, absolutely.

You always stick in that "catastrophic" in there. That's not exactly what climate scientists are saying - the fact is that our pollution is changing the climate. Science shows it - stop being a conspiratorial lemming.

that is exactly what the bought and paid for scientists are saying, where have you been for the past 30-40 years? first it was global cooling and the looming ice age coming because of evil humans, then it was global warming, then it was global warming, then it was climate change, then it was climate disruption., all BS. the whole carbon tax scam is based on this. real climate scientists are saying move along nothing to see here.

CO2 is the "pollution" these bought and paid for scientists are claiming is destroying the planet. if you think this is true please do the right thing and hold your breath for about 30 minutes to help save the planet.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Everyone is bought and paid for, no one has any ethics according to you.
I sort of get a kick out of having these discussions with you since it exposes your ignorance - yes yes, I'm sure you think the same thing of me. Funny how that works.

no.. not everyone is bought and paid for, don't be stupid, I NEVER said everyone. it is primarily the "scientists" involved with the UN IPCC.

Personal bias is always factored into sound scientific studies. Perseverance, patience and sound, honest peer review are also required. We don't always know what we don't know. F--inance can always make this a 'sticky wicket'. Definitely not a place for ax grinding on any side. Unlike theology, science evolves with evidence. Categorical statements and pissing contests are tiring, imo-even this one.

Pixel, I agree with the people I mentioned, not with you. So are they fools as well?

Angel, I highly doubt that people like Bill Gates have any scientific credentials or background to speak on the topic of global warming. They may very well be really smart software developers or businessmen but environmental scientists they are not. You can argue this point back and forth but anyone who has ever taken any basic course in earth science would have learned that Earth had gone through periods of global warming and cooling for thousands of years. In fact farmers have recorded this phenomenon in their journals for hundreds of years (you can do a bit more searching on this if you like). The basic problem here is: 'follow the money'. While I fully support developing alternative technologies and getting ourselves off the fossil fuels - as many of the people you mentioned had advocated - I don't think that taxing people to death in the forms of carbon credits is a really smart way of doing this. While it can make people like Al Gore or Goldman Sachs execs extremely wealthy it will hurt our economy and average Joe in the long run.
I also put a lot blame on our educational system here in the US where a big chunk of time is spent on putting condoms on cucumbers (not that it's non an essential skill to master) instead of learning science. I think Bill Gates would agree with me on that. Young people are completely ignorant and will eat up any bullshit that hucksters like Al Gore will serve them on a silver plate. While you could say: "well, what about those scientists that argue the global warming cause?" - Think about this, if you could get a tenure with a fat salary at a prestigious university propogating global warming as man-made, wouldn't you?

Incidentally, here is list of notable scientists on the other side of the spectrum. Are they liars?:

Actually, from a certain perspective, condoms on cucumbers is science. Biology, Virology, Sociology, and Psychology. It is also a bad point to make since most curriculums spend very little time on it. The thing is, climate change has been recorded. The vast majority of scientists support human initiated climate change. It doesn't make it flawless but it is enough to be the primary focus of teaching. So don't beat up the schools so much. They are just going with the majority.

Also, your link is broken.

what majority do you speak of? the whole "consensus" thing was exposed as a lie long ago.

Yeah it's called brainwashing. Today's students wouldn't be able to find Great Britain on a map or to name who we fought during WWII, but they're quite proficient with cucumbers. So it seems that the focus of teaching is a bit off.

It's kind of funny to me. Most of the folks who love dat ole climate change are the first to admit the earth is ancient. In the many. many moons the earth has been here. The climate has changed. Ice and fire ages. Giant lizards and flying humoungous reptiles in the sky. Ages come and go. Yet the earth abides. Humanity might indeed contribute to climate change on some level. But, it is almost (to me) on a par with a six day creation and six thousand year old earth to think "we" are changing the climate. The climate will continue to change. Ages of fire and ice will continue to happen. Then one day the space brothers will appear from the sky. The ancient ones will complete our evolutionary journey with science which to us will seem as magic. The earth will be cooled and mankind will be erradicated....uhhh, sorry Klatu told me I was supposed to leave that last part out. :p

Amazing to me how popular a political thread...ANY POLITICAL THREAD...even a bad one (And this is a BAD one) can get here. Is this Crossfire or the Paracast?

when socialists throw out the scientific method in exchange for a belief system some of us get agitated.
