Dear Jasonterodesg5,

Welcome to The Paracast Community Forums!

We welcome you aboard, and hope that you'll have a great time here with our community as well.

Gene at the risk of giving attention to the clown(s) that are submitting these false submissions, I think it would be a good idea to turn off the auto reply, let us forum members welcome any new members. Its gone from annoying to obnoxious especially as the constant welcome wagon posts push many of the active hot threads off the notification log.

I've noticed the same Mulder and for all these new joiners there are few posts? I wonder if there isn't some program behind some of these (I confess I know next to nothing of internet security) and yes, I like to peruse the active and recent threads shown, not constant notifications of new joiners.
I am 100% for anyone wishing to join in to do so. But I can't help thinking there is something amiss with many of these new accounts of late? I could be way off though, I admit.

Yes we seem to be getting too many new members who give false email addresses and fail verification. But our spam-blocking tools are pretty good about preventing bogus posts. We don't see many.

That's the thing Gene, if there were loads of trolling going on I'd understand it was fake accounts created to do just that. Does the software allow fake accounts to be created but then prevent them from posting? That's pretty clever. It's a mystery!
Far be it from me to tell someone what name to use in the forum but most of the recent joiners look like the first half of a fake email address?

We know you are ever-vigilant to these type of things.

We require email verification first. If the address fails that, end of story. After that, we do have spam filtering to catch most bogus messages.

I'm guessing it's those pesky nonts

It does seem like many new member accounts are program generated. Why someone would want to do this is uncertain.

I don't know if it is possible with this board software, but how about a captcha (as much as I hate it) just for the initial registering?
