Nothin' to see here
So in Australia last night on channel 10 there was a 911 documentary that was without a doubt one of the most intense things Ive ever seen. Did anyone in Australia see this? I was almost brought to tears on occasion, espcially when loved ones feared dead turn up back at home base (and thats saying a lot as I NEVER get emotional like that from media).
I had no idea this thing even existed. I was by 2 French film-makers who were doing a doco on a rookie who had just joined the NYFD. The beginning of the is basically following this guy and other fire fighters around while watching them rehearse drills.
Anyway the camera was rolling as the attack took place. They guys were down town looking at a gas leak in the street when you hear the first place scream overhead and see one of the fire fighters look up.... the camera then follows the sound and you see the plane hit. Fortunately they didnt dwell on this vision as it was just unbelievable.
The rest of the film is basically following this fire department as the day goes from bad to horrific. The crew and a few of the firemen were in the lobby of building 1 as the south building came down, blanketing the roof of the lobby in debris and throwing them into pitch blackness.
Its not an easy documentary to watch but I recommend everyone check it out. I probably wouldnt watch it again but it gave me a more accurate sense of what happened that day, and that those fire guys are truly, truly heroic.
As far as I could tell its just call "911" and its done by 2 French guys.
