Apparently we are a dirty, pride less, communist people that hate our own country but feel justified in spouting racists dribble at a thinly disguised bigotry festival.

My god, this is scary shit. The rampant ignorance is depressing and sad.

Beck bothers me about as much as Rush. I just can't watch the guy.

Beck bothers me about as much as Rush. I just can't watch the guy.

I've watched him a couple of times...it's amazing how he combines basic news stories with reinvented history and complete conjecture. And then spins it in a semi-believable way- at least to those that have no inkling of what's written in the history books or what's really happening.

Seeing stuff like this from the outside, I can say that I don't understand some Americans.
Life is pretty good in Canada, as well as in many other countries. Some of the people in this video think that the only country in the world that has it right is the United States.

or maybe they interviewed thousands to get those ten? think of it from the other side; what if the majority of them are average john and jane does...and fed that rhetoric until they begin to believe that everybody thinks that way, so therefore, they must also believe that way?

more evidence for 'the emporor has no clothes' theory. Not an attack on Obama, just a general theory of mine about empires, clothes, sheeple...

I'm pretty sure they interview many people and picked the ones that were the most relevant for the message they wanted to give. That doesn't change the fact that there are people that think like this. These people said these things.

I have no problem with them believing Muslims took down the towers, it is a widely held belief/theory. It can be debated, obviously, but that in itself is not absurd. Its the "All Muslims are Evil" sentiment that is absurd.

I'm biting my lip here but thats ok ... I'm ok with that. If its your opinion that Muslims did 9/11 then thats fine. Actually no ... thats not fine because it didn't happen like that but I'll not go there at the moment.

Vyzygoth ... he of the ertswhile Grassy Knoll radio programme/podcast has some interesting things to say about the Beck/Palin rally last weekend. You can find it here:

http://beyondthegrassyknoll.com/audio/stuffthings6.mp3

Basically it comes down to is: WTF are you saying?, Beck, Palin?? ... what the hell are you talking about? What you are saying doesn't make a blind word of sense.

And the people just ate it up. He plays a clip of Palin which made absolutely no sense whatsoever, and the crowd just ate it up. It seems that as long as you throw together a bunch of words but punctuate them with "America", and "God" and "Family" etc etc etc ... you will win with these people.

I would say from listening to the small bit of the rally I heard on Vyz's programme that America is screwed. Utterly. The people who will vote for Beck (who in my opinion is a psychopath) and Palin (who is just utterly re*arded  ... just listen to her utterly buggering up her speech in the above programme, its really scary) when they finally start a 3rd party are possibly some of the scariest, stupidest people in the US. Oh and they all love Israel ... probably ... so thats ok then 8)

It's pretty simple really: "We will spend less money than the liberals will." That's all that matters to me. You could get up on stage, say just that, and that's all I need. Now, who knows if they'll really spend less or not. That's another matter. But at least conservatives talk about spending less money. That's a start. It's a fresh breath of air when compared to the typical "progressive" speech: "60 billion for this, 122 billion for that, 569 million for that thing over there, 1.2 trillion for this over here, 45 billion for that thing over in the corner..." When I hear shit like that I start fantasizing about lightning bolts striking the speaker FUCKING DEAD. Reality: the country is 13 trillion dollars in debt. Until that is payed off any politician talking about spending a dime on anything is an irresponsible asshole looking to buy votes from idiots. Anyone who votes for that politician is a bigger asshole. Doing so is the equivalent of yelling "It's all about ME right now!" just prior to marching into your kids' bedrooms and giving it to them in the backside without lube. They are the ones that are eventually going to have to pay for your uncontrolled gluttony. And I don't care how you try dressing it up, so you say the money is for saving babies? Go fuck yourself! You say it's for providing for the elderly? Go fuck yourself! You say you want so many billion to help the illiterate? Go fuck yourself! You say it's for providing for me? Go fuck yourself! You ain't buying my vote with bribes. Until that 13 trillion is payed off you shouldn't be proposing that money be spent on anything. Even a politician's pitch to spend a federal buck on a candy bar should be met with hostility. I could care less about God, abortion, the damned wars, prostitution, flippin' stem cells, you name it. If you're not going to burn money like it's a job description you've got my vote. The Republicans will spend plenty, no doubt about it. But they'll spend less than the Democrats and that makes them the lesser of two evils.

Wasn't that constructive? Political threads are always such a good idea.

Just so I am clear, the accepted theory is that religious fundamentalist terrorists took down the towers not just Muslims. In my home state of Oklahoma, a group of whacko terrorists blew up the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. They were not religious fundamentalists they were ultra-radical ultra-right wing nutjobs who hated the concepts of a strong federal government. It doesn't mean I hold that against my republican neighbor even though he dislikes federal government control as well. I don't automatically label him a terrorist nutjob.

I always forget how different the United States is. We share the longest unprotected border, the people are similar in so many ways, but overall, it is such a different culture. I've always found it interesting that the Conservative Party of Canada is much closer to the Democrats which are America's liberals. Our Liberal Party must look like hippies, and the NDP (New Democratic Party) must seem like communists. I won't even go into provincial politics because you'll think that Quebec is some sort of Socialist republic.
Just to say, I live in a province that is probably the most "socialist" in North America and I can say that I am extremely happy. A few things to think about -

Day care: $35 per week - If you don't have kids, ask someone who does, see how much they pay.
Health Care: Most things are free, prescriptions are covered by your insurance, no insurance, the province pays
Higher Education: Quebec resident going to, let's say McGill University, about $2000 per semester.
The government paid most of my salary so that I could have five weeks off when we had a baby. My wife got a full year the government paid for it.
Before people worry about how much the government is spending, you should see how comfortably people live elsewhere. And just to say, Canada has it okay, but when you see how it's done in Europe, it's pretty amazing.

I live quite comfortably and my wife and I have a middle class income. The government is not taking all my money. Yeah, taxes are high, but cost of living is relatively low.

What does any of that have to do with 13 trillion dollars of debt? If it worked that would be one thing. But they've been experimenting with it and now we're 13 trillion dollars in debt. That isn't going to magically disappear. The country can't just file bankruptcy to get rid of it like a household can. It's there, looming over our heads like a guillotine blade.

Edit: By the way, the government doesn't pay for or "give" anything away. All they're "giving" is something they seized from someone else.

The problem with this is that a lot of people these days don't think in long terms anymore.
As you said, the debt won't magically disappear, it will be nicely distributed over quite a long time.I also think they run out of paper to print after the 'bank bail out'.

Nicely distributed? Umm, no. The current projections are that it is going to double in just several years. And that's if we don't add anything else.

Well, sorry, I was coming from the german point of view here and the 'little help' the country gave to greece to keep them from falling apart, I really have no insight into the US financial politics other then what I get from the news.

Up the Irons, btw. \m/

As I said - I pay taxes. If you wish to make it a negative that's fine. I'm happy I live where I live, not dreading getting sick, or having a child, or forgoing an education because I can't afford it. Redistribution of wealth is important. The rich should pay more in taxes than the poor.

Anyway, I do find it funny that you would want the republicans back, since they're the ones that got you into this debt. I do remember that when Clinton was in office your debt was in control. Then Bush decided to start a war. And let's not blame that war a terrorism - that's a farce and we all know it. Afghanistan I can understand, but Iraq was B.S.

Greece had to be bailed out by another country? Wow, that's pathetic. Probably spent themselves into oblivion like so many want us to do. I doubt anyone will bail out the USA once this debt catches up to us and causes financial Armageddon. Nope, I suspect quite a few people around the world will feel pleased to see the "Evil Empire" on its knees.

Yep, Robin Hood as president. At one time he was considered an outlaw, now it's policy. Surreal how things change. Well, I don't agree.

And I'm not going to get into a big tic for tac about who spent what (Clinton wasn't too bad. Obama is a freakin' nightmare. He took a deficit of a few hundred billion a year to nearly 2 trillion a year in just two years!). It's irrelevant. The current reality is 13 trillion dollars of debt and growing...fast.

U.S. National Debt Clock : Real Time

And even scarier? That graph shows nearly 54 trillion of total US debt (And I'll be the first to admit that while I understand the national debt figure I really don't have a complete understanding of the total debt calculation).

Wow. I'm not world savvy, but I watched the riots on TV and knew about Greece's financial woes. There's quite a few countries over there that have ha some serious financial difficulties. Greece was just one of the most recent that erupted in violence. Look for Portugal and Spain next...Spain is full of citizens that consider themselves provincials-not Spanish. And Portugal is having some rough times in terms of gainful employment as well.

Don't forget that 2.3 Trillion dollars of the government's money just ended up missing. Gone. Where did it go? No one is really sure. Rumsfeld said the same on September 10, 2001. It's in the papers. 2.3 TRILLION dollars evaporated out of the US Government and no one knows where it went. The US started 2 wars and is threatening a third. Angelo is right, the war on Iraq was BS...and we spent 800 million dollars to build a HUGE sprawling campus over there, actually I think there were cost overrides so it ended up being more. (Haliburton got the contract, in case you didn't know.)

I'm not going to claim that Obama is any better than Bush, since I have nothing but contempt for professional politicians, but he was left holding a hand full of cards in the middle of a long game of Texas Hold'em that somebody else had dealt.
