January 29, 2017 — Joshua P. Warren

The idea of the wishing machine has been growing on my imagination all week.

I'd like to try and build my own box, but how do I start? I mean, is there a minimum hardware spec? Does it have an energy output of some kind, a basic system involved, or are the contents entirely symbolic? Does it have batteries? There wasn't much detail about what's under the hood. (Maybe that was covered in the plus segment!)

Also curious if anyone has read the Chuck Palahniuk story called the "The Nightmare Box" and the potential for an opposite effect if the thing is wired up wrong!

Google "virtual wishing machine" and you find ones you can print off. One of the earliest mention of said machine I've found is in the book "On the Frontiers of Science (Strange Machines you Can Build)," by G. Harry Stine.
