Is the Space Program Dying?

I'm not sure that I'm entirely ready to jump on the alien bases on the moon boat just yet, but superjudge does have a point. Considering how much money and intellectual resources have already been focused on a revisit to the moon it seems incredibly hasty and wasteful to just scrap the program with no clear alternative. If the space program is to be revitalized it will take a reconstruction of our economy and some sort of grand event that sweeps the American people into a "Ya, let's land our boys on that mother!" sort of attitude. Not sure what sort of event that would be, but the U.S. seems to like rallying around war causes, so faking an alien invasion would seem to be the standard approach to take.
