Göbekli Tepe

Free episodes:

I just watched this on the TV a couple of weeks ago and I'm fairly certain that the documentary implied that the people of Gobeki Tepe were practicing a proto-Christian faith. And I ain't no Christian, and in no way do I support any pro-Christian statements made by others, so don't throw me to the lions.

No the site is way to early for that to be true, even the religions that form the roots of Christianity did not exist when this place was abandoned.

I think the researchers are floating the hypothesis that this was the beginning of the concept of religion, and therefor the prototype for all faiths. They probably did the scene in the Christian church for western audiences and cut that out for the Islamic countries, which shows how unimportant the link really is.
I suppose that even hunter gatherers have a vested interest in predicting the seasons, so the idea of the shadow calendar is interesting. I know that's what I thought when I first saw its resemblance to Stonehenge.

True enough back on topic .. It was just I failed to see the relevance of bringing Christian dogma into the subject as you can well understand.

Anyway yes a calendar is a good explanation as it makes sense.. as an aside is there any reason why such a place could not be duel purpose? Modern humans tend to compartmentalize things/places but neolithic man was not so clear cut.

I think its reasonably likely the two would be combined.
A lot of the speculation suggests the timing coincides with agriculture.
Shadow calendars work very well in telling you when to plant a crop, esp when you consider there was no other way of keeping track of the date.
It would seem magical to those using the device (years and years after it was built) that these shadows would consistantly provide you with the data you need to do it right (plant seeds)
To the people of the time it might indeed seem as if these shadows were messages from the gods, thats the gods attention must be on this spot in order for the device to work

Seed of Knowledge, Stone of Plenty: Understanding the Lost Technology of the Ancient Megalith-Builders: John Burke, Kaj Halberg: 9781571781840: Amazon.com: Books

Draws perhaps a long bow in regards to some aspects, (electrical stuff) but the basic premise that these sites are associated with seeds is imo valid.

The authors claim to have measured some interesting electrical properties
associated with European henges, North American Indian mounds and Meso-
American pyramids and temples, as well as some interesting constructions
made out of magnetite in northeastern North America. According to the
authors, the electrical properties of these sites serve to enhance
agricultural production considerably. Furthermore they claim that all of
the sites were built during a period of famine, and immediately after
they were built, there was a period of plenty for the society that built
them.

As for the reason for digging long ditches, certain soils carry
electrical current better than other, and currents do naturally flow and
subside through these soils daily as the earth turns and the magnetic
field of the earth reacts with the incoming flow of charged particles
from the sun. Also, these currents only go a few feet deep into the
earth. The ditches are dug in order to direct and concentrate the current
to increase the charge at a given point.

Lest one think that the authors are totally off their rocker, they
mention a modern company that has patented a charge device that treats
seed in the same way that these monument sites do and results in much
higher and earlier germination rates, faster maturity, more stress
resistance, and higher yields. Furthermore, Mayan farmers to this day
still use some of the old sites to "bless" their corn before planting..

Again, i'm just speculating. But as a gardener myself i know that a calendar of some sort is a valuable tool when it comes to agriculture.

hahaha Mike astute as ever and as a keen gardener myself it makes a hell of a lot of sense.

its not even remotely possible that 'alien bases' are in our oceans, without our militaries knowing about it, craft coming and going at will, not an iota of a reality, sorry.

There is one image on the central stone in the center of the Gobekli Tepe complex. That is of a Lizard, now in many cultures it is customary to say that: "Lizards are walking Snakes".

A lizard is a lizard and snake is a snake, just because a culture or civilization is ancient does not mean they could not identify animals.
I think the walking snake you are referring to originates with cultures that observed "Mamba" snakes (Dendroaspis) especially the Black Mamba (Dendroaspis polylepis) which is known to "walk".
Mambas are also referred to as "Tree Asps". and were of religious significance to many peoples, which is understandable because of the toxicity of their bite.

I have a very limited understanding of astrology, but I am puzzled as to why designs at "Gobekli Tepe" would correspond with the "mayan" calender when they are from different "hemispheres".

Good point, but I thought that they had puzzled out that these types of structures were all planting and harvesting type calendars long ago. None of these structures have anything about them that suggests advanced technology of any sort. Rocks folks. They built the things with rocks and dirt. Artisans yes, technologists ...no.

This ranks in the top two worst depictions of stone heng I have ever seen, what period of its use is it supposed to represent? and who drew it? what or who's evidence is it based on?

P.S I thought the end of the world was supposed to happen back in the year 2k or was that a miscalculation? (please ignore this comment if I have misunderstood what you are trying to say)

i think its a case of BSC.
