Ghost Hunters and Flashlights

Watcher of the Skies
I caught an episode of Ghost Hunters last night in which they show possible interaction of a ghost with a flashlight. The episode took place at a Cuban entertainment center in Tampa. In one scene the ghost of a boy is turning the flashlight on and off. I've seen this done before in other episodes. Any thoughts on this? Seems difficult to believe. The link below comments on the episode.

remote on/off switch? I think there is an app for that.

I like the show. I don't really think they do everything they can to examine evidence...but I do like the fact that they discount orbs. I would like to see them with an audio specialist and a video specialist for the "evidence" that they do obtain.

I know that the show is entertainment, but at least you don't have the GH guys calling everything "demonic" like a certain other show does.

I'm still waiting for GH to show an ounce of the scientific method they keep talking about.

Seasons one and two of GH were good; they were paranormal investigators during those days. Now they're into info-tainment. There is no more investigating for them, no more researching. They do everything for the show and for the audience now. In short; they have sold out.

As far as the flashlight goes, they unscrew the connection to the battery compartment until it baarrrely connects. That supposedly allows the ghost to manipulate the flashlight to turn it on and off in a method of communication. Of course the connection to the batteries is so touchy that even a slight breeze could cause the light to turn off or on at random. Of course, the technique is not very reliable in the least.

I like the show too. Especially GHI.

I don't know how they accept some of the phenomena that happen as 'paranormal'. I DO think that we are not shown or privy to a lot that goes on behind the scenes and before The Reveal. They have a lot more info/evidence that we aren't aware of before they make their decisions, I'm sure.

YET...I personally canNOT believe how the episodes that have physically-heard 'voices' are deemed 'paranormal'! I just can't agree with them for some reason, sorry.

Take the episode where they investigate St. Petersburg's Rennissance Vinoy. And Jason is woken up in the middle of the night by those two low, grumbly voice incidents.

There was another time where a voice was heard saying: 'I like the one with the hat' (can't remember which episode that was in).

....I just can't believe that those incidents are really from disembodied entities. I think that they are hoaxes that either the GH Team is or isn't aware of, for the sake of keeping the show less monotonous and boring. (Since the people in them are all low-key, little-drama people...).

Something else: A few of those Thermal footages that have been caught...they are actually shown walking (or wobbling in the case of the one in a recent episode)....I also have a real issue believing that those aren't either some kind of hoax and done by 'real people'. (including that one in that Penitentiary that looks like a person in a black cape who runs towards the camera then turns around and runs away. Watch it in slow motion, you can nearly see almost like someone's heel or leg as they turn to run away from the camera).

That all being said: I still enjoy the shows (for some reason). In fact, they are actually comforting, somehow. And due to the down-to-earth personalities of Jason, Grant, Steve and most of the others (Brain's a bit high-strung), I still DVR it and am entertained by it (such is some of the purposes).

My 2 cents.

The flashlight thing, don't know. Anything that appears to be "good for TV" needs to be questioned.

The GH and GHI shows are okay, but they do have their faults.

What I really do like about the show are the locations. This is what drives the show and keeps me watching. The stories the histories are all fascinating. I find myself researching these places many times for further info. Not the personnel private homes necessarily but the historical locations.

I like the show, but I sometimes want mindless entertainment. It's good for that. I suspend everything that pertains to critical thinking and just enjoy it like junk food. Don't need a steady diet of it, however.

Regardless of their less than scientific approach, I wouldn't have realized the creepy stuff that happens in my office was a result of an electromagetic hoedown if I hadn't been repeatedly subjected to Jason's and Grant's explanation. When I unplug all the gadgets, the ghosts disappear. :D

That the way I feel about the show. "Paratainment".

Same here, it's comforting, mindless entertainment that's cool to have on in the background while you are surfing the web on your laptop and stuff.

For any of the shows that looked really interesting and I don't feel like watching the whole thing, I just fast forward to the Reveal parts.
