Disinformation! With Alejandro Rojas.

Jeff Crowell

Paranormal Annoyance
So last week I had the pleasure to fly out to Las Vegas for a work-related training conference which turned out to be a whole lot of work and very very little pleasure, actually. This was my third trip to Vegas and every time I go I take time to visit the National Atomic Testing Museum. Checking their site the night I flew out I saw that none other than Alejandro Rojas was going to be speaking there on the Friday of my trip week! I made it a point to take a cab to the museum that afternoon and meet the man.

I was able to introduce myself and have a good discussion with Alejandro about an hour before the presentation, but we had to break it off so he could do a video interview for OpenMinds. A funny thing happened after the video; a man approached Alejandro, who was casually dressed, and asked about the topic of tonight's discussion and the speaker. Not knowing he was speaking to the presenter himself (Alejandro), the man started mouthing off about "UFO quackery", especially when Alejandro confirmed that the "speaker" was not a scientist but an investigative reporter instead. I made sure I sat near the guy during the presentation in case he started trouble.... I tend to not mind 'helping security' escort unruly folks out when they cause problems. Anyway, though he didn't show it, I'm sure the man was a bit taken back when Alejandro (now dressed in a suit) took the stage and started talking about UFO's and government disinformation. The debunker left after 50 minutes of the presentation which, admittedly, was longer than I would have thought.

Alejandro's presentation was excellently executed. He detailed the Area 51 conspiracy with emphasis on Bob Lazar, and the other case (the names escape me now) where the Airforce MP supposedly drove one of the military contractors insane after the contractor reported seeing strange lights above the near-by base. The overall topic of the presentation was a dedicated effort by the government to inject disinformation into the amateur UFO research field. I have to say I don't buy into "intentional" government disinformation at all...I think Lazar was lashing out at his superiors at Area 51 because he didn't get his way with something in the base, and I think the MP got his kicks bullying and driving the "UFO nerd" crazy.

It was a great presentation, and Alejandro didn't 'really' try to steer toward a conclusion. It was also great meeting someone I listen to on a semi-regular basis face to face. If you have the opportunity to listen to Alejandro's presentation live, I highly recommend it.

Peace!

J.
