Gene Rudely Talks Over Everyone (Even Chris)

Free episodes:

MTZ

Paranormal Novice
This has probably been addressed before, but Gene refuses to ever concede to any sound other than his own voice. He just runs over everyone and gets angry when anyone dares to talk at the same time as him. Someone has an Ego problem here, and it aint Chris O'Brien.

*puts on polite hat*

Dear MTZ I think that a little "research" into the way that a "radio" show is made would enrich your understanding.
Someone "usually" the producer must be very "strict" about timing because otherwise things would be too chaotic for the listener to comprehend and or advertising would be compromised.
My understanding is that Gene is the "captain" of the ship and he must steer her as he sees fit.
You are free to jump overboard at any time.

Kind regards

I think you're listening to another radio show. Not this one. We rarely have to stop a guest unless they are hitting a network break or filibustering.

Yup.

I think there's a misunderstanding, MTZ. Sometimes a guest doesn't realize that Gene is actually ending the segment for another commercial break (I don't like those too but these are the realities we have to live with if we want the show for free). He or she tries to put a sentence in, but Gene goes on doing the "segment outro", which may sound like he's talking over them. I'm sure he's not fond of it himself, but they have to do it, or otherwise I assume they would have to cut the guest off mid sentence.

LOL. He's Gene's dark half, don't you know. The shadow guy with the evil laugh who gets very very angry if someone dares to talk at the same time as him. Dr. Steinberg and Mr Rudely. :D

I can attest that Gene does not talk over people rudely. Gene keeps the timings and also makes sure guests don't stay on one topic too long. There is absolutely never enough time so someone has to move things along and announce ad breaks. It can also happen accidentally bearing in mind skype is used, there can be slight delays in which more than one person starts to talk, and if you do, it's hard to hear that another is etc so it can happen by accident.
Listen to the last show with Jerry Clarke and work out how much percent airtime Jerry gets and I guarantee he has stacks of time.

I don't think any of us wish to dissuade any listener but if you really have a problem with the host surely you should listen to another show?

Some people have have a few wrong impressions about the show, unfortunately. You correct them — or demand examples — and they vanish or double down on the attacks.

While we are sorta on the subject I've been wanting to point out that you guys allow your guests too much latitude, allow them to ramble on and on and on, let them say what they want and never ever challenge them. Time to tighten up Mr. Rudely ;)

It's one of those lose/lose situations. If you give a guest a little freedom, you are criticized. If you stop them from going overbid, you are criticized. It's a difficult balance, and the fact that we are criticized at both ends indicates, to me at least, that we have a good balance.

Get your own radio show and do it the way you think it should be done.

Up to my eyeballs in the local bushfire emergency, but im poping in for this one

Having recently appeared as a guest on the show, i can tell you your perception is wrong.
Gene was a sheer delight to work with, our pre show chats put me completely at ease and made my participation smooth and enjoyable.
He's a real Pro.

I WAS going to point this out in my above post but instead went the sardonic route, I'm trusting you took it that way.

A Very healthy attitude and probably more right than you'll ever know.

Slight detour, if I remember you mentioned once you were right on top of a military base, did I get that right ? does this give you a little more comfort in that if any bushfires that got really close that maybe extra attention would be given to your area?

There is an RAAF (air force) base up here, but not near me.
The situation is catastrophic right now, we lost 200 houses last week, today is the big one, we have a mega fire up wind of us today.

Im with the local volunteer group, we have equipment and are prepared, but then the same could have been said about the homes lost last week, no plan survives contact with the enemy.

I do seem to remember hearing that last year was so bad as far as hot brush fires they introduced a new color code. At any rate best of luck.to you and anybody else affected by the fires.

I should feel bad about derailing the Gene bashing thread..... but i dont :D

Thanks for the kind words folks, still here.
Got to spend 6 hours on the wet end of a 38mm fire hose connected to a standpipe (hydrant) yesterday.
Am still pink and wrinkled in many wrong places.

Ive spent today trying to sort out all the interpersonal issues on my crew
People are strange, they can train all year with not a bad word, and then when firey death is bearing down on us, everyone suddenly decides now is a good time to bring up that branch that got lopped, or the lawn clippings that got dumped over the back fence.

Whaa???

Mike, sorry to hear of your current plight. Exhaustion and sleep deprivation don't always bring out the best in people.
