The Fight for Disclosure

Much of the talk about possible government disclosure of UFO evidence focuses on the United States of America. Well, at least from the point of view of the people in this country. So the military, the intelligence community, and/or perhaps those in charge of a secret “black project,” are fully aware of the truth behind the UFO enigma.
All we have to do is somehow persuade them to let us in on the secret. If we’re persuasive enough.
The basic assumption here is that there is a secret to be disclosed, and that enough prodding, begging or petitioning will be sufficient to convince them to tell us the truth. Of course, that truth is, to most people in the UFO community, that we are being visited by an advanced race of beings from another star system.
At first, when the demands for disclosure first arose in the 1950s, they talked about visitors from other planets in our solar system. But the more that we learned of those worlds, the less likely it seemed that anything we’d recognize as intelligent life would reside on any of them.
So there would be no “Zombies of the Stratosphere,” one of whom looked for all the world like a young Leonard Nimoy, or a race red-skinned humanoids on Mars.
All right, I’m just referring to a “B” movie serial from 1952, one of Nimoy’s earliest roles, and the famous sci-fi/fantasy series about the exploits of John Carter from Edgar Rice Burroughs.
These stories and many others seemed silly enough even in the early days of the modern UFO era.
In any case, disclosure advocates will maintain that the authorities in the U.S. knew early on what UFOs actually were, and kept the secret from the populace for reasons best known to themselves. Perhaps they did not want to cause a panic, disrupt the energy industry and organized religion, or reveal the possibility that we might one may be invaded.
Back then, one of the early UFO writers pitching for disclosure, Major Donald E. Keyhoe, said that we could handle the truth, if only they would tell us.
If there is a secret to be told, then, it has been kept for decades, from bureaucrat to bureaucrat. Forget about whistleblowers. It would be easy enough to pile on the disinformation to make them look foolish.
As to the President, well that person is just a temporary occupant of the Oval Office. They have the power to declassify and thus could not be trusted to keep their mouths shut. So they are not read in, or it’s done in a way that conveys the strong impression that it would be better for their personal safety to keep the secret.
Whether or not any of this is true isn’t the point. But it’s very self-centered, focusing strictly on what any single country on Earth might know.
All right, the U.S. and the UK are usually bosom buddies, so our friends across the pond can usually be trusted; even now, despite the crazy goings-on at 10 Downing Street.
But what about a less-friendly country?
Surely Russia’s authoritarian leader, Vladimir Putin, would just love to get one up on the other developed countries. Since there have been compelling sightings in that country, he knows what’s really going on and could very well spill the beans if it served his interests.
Then there’s China, whose President for Life, Xi Jinping, wants his country to become the number one power on the planet. Would their authorities know enough about UFOs to have guilty knowledge about our visitors?
If any country on Earth was able to reverse engineer at least some alien technology, they might soon take over the planet if that was their intent. And it’s clear Putin, Jinping, and their authoritarian counterparts, would be delighted to gain the upper hand.
Now is it at all possible that the U.S., the UK, and perhaps other G-7 countries, have conspired to withhold the truth about UFOs? What about the rest of the civilized world? Someone, somewhere, might find it advantageous to be the first to reveal that we are being visited by ET.
So why hasn’t it happened?
Or is it possible that this is a secret that would seriously alter our civilization in ways that wouldn’t serve their interests? Maybe the secret is jointly held by the members of the United Nations, knowing full well that it can never be revealed until the time is right. And maybe not even then.
What about some secret society, hidden from us, that’s really pulling the strings? Call it a breakaway civilization that only interacts with the rest of the world when it suits their needs.
All right, I’m skirting the boundaries of paranoia here, that we couldn’t handle the truth or that it’s being withheld from us for one reason or another.
You can come up with all sorts of scenarios that would present a potential danger to our civilization, such as plans for an eventual takeover. That idea is not unknown in the UFO field. Abduction researcher Dr. David Jacobs, for example, has long maintained that ET is engaged in creating a hybrid race that will gradually occupy critical areas of government and quietly assume control.
No shots need be fired!
Not that I agree with any of this.
It is very possible that the governments of Earth are actually attempting to get a handle on the UFO enigma, to figure out what’s going on. Or maybe they feel confident enough that they don’t represent a threat to our security that they would rather not consider that extraterrestrials are amongst us.
Of course, there’s always the possibility that aliens have already been in touch with the powers-that-be, that there’s a covert agreement as to how and when disclosure might occur.
Notice that I am not considering a prime directive, since the mere presence of UFOs in the skies has already had a tremendous impact on the lives of many people. In other words, a prime directive has already been violated many times over.
Or maybe none of this is true. The presence of UFOs might just be a natural part of human evolution, to continue to take us forward; well, at least if we don’t destroy ourselves in the process.
