The Dream of a Presidential UFO Revelation
By Gene Steinberg

Some time back, one of the movements devoted to UFO disclosure sent along a petition, containing several thousand names, to the office of the President of the United States. The request was obvious: Reveal that UFOs are extraterrestrial.

As you might expect, President Obama didn’t hold a press conference on the subject. Instead, the petition was passed on to a low-level bureaucrat who gave the standard boilerplate response that there was no evidence that we are being visited by ET. End of story.

Well, not quite, since the petitioners have modified their approach, and have decided to focus more tightly on significant sightings involving military personnel. But it’s clear that such a move probably won’t make a lick of a difference. It would take the requests of millions of Americans to deliver a response, and even then, there’s no guarantee that you’d hear the answers you expect.

The real issue, of course, is how much does the President know about UFOs, beyond, of course, what they might read in the papers or in a book. You may not even know if they are actually interested in looking into the matter. Sure, we know that President Carter had a UFO sighting, but that didn’t make him any more forthcoming in revealing anything new about the subject during his single term in office. President Reagan once spoke cryptically about the next war being a war in space, but maybe that was all about his so-called “Star Wars” program, the popular branding of his proposal for a Strategic Defense Initiative in 1983, which involved ground and space-based defense systems to protect the country against a possible nuclear attack.

There is also that story that, when he was President, Bill Clinton and First Lady Hilary Clinton sat down with Laurence Rockefeller to discuss UFOs. There is actually an alleged draft letter from Rockefeller suggesting ways in which the release of UFO information could be coordinated.

Now it is true that Rockefeller did make grants to private researchers to look into various paranormal matters. Our own Christopher O’Brien got a small sum from Rockefeller for one investigative project.

Now if you can believe the controversial MJ-12 documents, it may well be that President Truman had an interest in the subject, which would be understandable regardless of the authenticity of the documents. In those days, the arrival of the flying saucers was a worldwide phenomenon, and there was a U.S. agency, later known as Project Blue Book, which was devoted to investigating the growing number of sightings. Or maybe just running a public relations disinformation campaign to divert attention from a real investigation.

There are rumors that President Eisenhower, upon taking a trip to visit his dentist, really got to see aliens being held at a secret base. Well, that’s the story, and it’s undeniably fascinating. But it’s not as if there’s final proof that such a thing ever really occurred.

The picture is murkier about Kennedy, Nixon, and other occupants of the oval office. Yes, while in Congress, Gerald Ford was a key mover and shaker when it came to the hearings that resulted in the Condon Committee in 1966. But it’s not as if that attempt to figure out what is really going on delivered results that were satisfactory to anyone but a diehard skeptic.

In the intervening years, you wonder just how much any U.S. President actually knew about the subject, beyond popular coverage. Did they receive sighting reports as part of their regular intelligence briefings? Did science advisors sit down and alert a newly-elected chief executive of the existence of visitors from another planet? Or were they warned off, because they were delving into matters that were not only too hot to handle, but could have dreadful effects on their political future, particularly if they hoped to run for another term? Perhaps the threats were more personal in nature.

Does the President of the U.S. even have the need to know? After all, he only hangs around for a period of four or eight years. After that he’s out the door, and the entrenched system doesn’t change as the result of the deeds, or lack thereof, of any single chief executive.

Would a President’s treatment about such mysteries resemble the way it was handled in the blockbuster popcorn movie, “Independence Day”? In that film, the mythical President Whitmore, as portrayed by an earnest Bill Pullman, is alerted as to the existence of a secret base housing a spaceship and alien bodies at Area 51. When he asks why he wasn’t told about this before the aliens arrived to invade planet Earth, his Secretary of Defense (portrayed by James Rebhorn) simply utters two words, “plausible deniability.”

However, if the President is kept in the dark, would his cabinet secretaries have a clue, even if they managed the departments that would be involved in any UFO coverup? Remember, their tenure is temporary too, and the President will frequently change the occupants of those offices even before a term is over. So why should they be privy to any information their boss doesn’t know?

If there’s a UFO secret that is not yet disclosed, the government bureaucracy may even farm out the ongoing investigations and evidence to private industry, conveniently financing the whole enterprise with funds that are cleverly buried. You might even find it within an appropriation that is, in part, meant to fund a completely different function having nothing whatever to do with national defense. I don’t for a moment dispute the possibility that entrenched government officials, who don’t depend on public officials for their employment, long ago figured out how to hide significant amounts of money in ways that even a skilled businessperson would find difficult to discover.

But is any of that true? Is the U.S. government, and its counterparts around the world, as mystified as the rest of us about UFOs, their origins and their purpose in being here? It’s not as if they’d ever admit they’re stumped, right?

How much do the powers that be really know? We don't know the full extent of what they know, but we can surmise with reasonable accuracy the least that they probably know, which is more than we do, and since we know UFOs are real, it's safe to assume that they know that plus more. But how much more? Let's think logically about that and start with Space Command. There are super sensitive spy satellites constantly monitoring what's going on in near Earth space. Most UFO researchers have known this for a long time, but recently, on DMR we heard Don Ecker review the topic as well. It's been going on now for decades, and between those space based detectors, advanced military radar, and other detection technology, it's safe to say that they have a lot more information than we do. How much of that information represents UFOs?

According to Author Timothy Good there are thousands of unknown targets on file. Add to that the blacked out documents and refused FOIA requests and there is simply no doubt that they know more than we do. At the very least this would include the tracking data, which would indicate location, size and speed. Then there would be the files from instances when jet intercepts were attempted. Those would contain pilot statements and possibly more radar, flir, and/or camera data. Then it's not just the USA that's been collecting this information, but other developed nations as well. Together it must add up to a wealth of undeniable data that no honest skeptic could dismiss ( although they probably would anyway because that's just what they do ). What does all this boil down to? We may not know all the gory details of each case, but we know UFOs are real and we also know they know. So do we really need them to tell us any more? Not really, but it would sure be nice for us ufologists to dig our teeth into something substantial for a change.

I agree Gene, unless there was an imminent threat of invasion etc, I don't think President's would be considered to have a need to know.
I worked in Intelligence and am fully aware of just how small the circle of people in the know about any one thing is.
For instance it could even be like this: some military person or government official might know the facts surrounding a certain UFO case but that does not mean they would be the same ones to know about a different case.

I don't know if there ever has been a crashed UFO (I lean to a yes though) and if there are indeed crash recovery teams but lets say there is. How small can we keep the number of people who would need to know to the truth to deal with a crashed saucer?

I think it could break down something loosely like this:

A pilot on standby to get a team somewhere fast - but the pilot might not be told what for.
Perhaps only 4 people could utilise local law enforcement to enforce a cordon without knowing what for, the only people inside the cordon are those who will actually retrieve wreckage. Depending on how big, it might take one driving a car-tow truck to drag it onto a flatbed truck, whose driver does not know the load, cos it's under a tarp and loaded while he is not there - all the time normal military secrecy keeps those involved in the periphery in the dark. They might be told the military is retrieving a top-secret missile that malfunctioned and they cannot even be allowed to see it's new fancy design etc just like how the shape of the stealth fighter was kept secret.

These 4 guys, utilising many others who never, ever actually see a ufo artefact, get the crashed ship from A to B and at B, there is a small number of scientists who are read into this 'specially compartmented information' and as Bob Lazar stated (regardless of whether he is a total fraud or not), one person is only tasked with one aspect of the operation, such as 'airframe' or 'propulsion' or 'power source'.

Of course, there might have been civilian witnesses but the usual disinformation and ridicule tactics would be used and we all know they work perfectly well for most of the population. It's all very well knowing something like a UFO crashed but unless you have tangible proof, the knowledge is worthless.

Also factor in the fact that military and govt employees like scientists do not make megabucks, you only use people with family and kids, so you can threaten removal of pension and pay etc and who will threaten the finances of their family on a slim chance you can convince the media or the public that you were involved with ET tech?

I think there are plenty people alive today with first-hand knowledge of non-human constructed UFOs but they know there is little point being a whistleblower cos the deck is stacked in the govt's favour, so we have people who have the knowledge but wont risk revealing it if they depend financially on those whose secrets they are keeping.

Of course people could be threatened with violence or murder. Governments knowingly send soldier into battle, convinced a certain percentage will die and the reasons for the action may be political and nothing to do with the protection of the citizens of the United States or whatever country. So if a govt is willing to waste human life over petty political crap, they certainly would be willing to 'disappear' someone who threatens arguable the hottest political potato ever.

Now, of course I may have missed plenty of angles, I am just thinking aloud kind of here but I hope I have demonstrated how easy it might be to cover-up UFO reality. Bearing in mind it's not what you know, it's what you can prove.
