For many years, Stan led teams of scientists, engineers, and research specialists to investigate mysterious occurrences across Pennsylvania. He is the primary investigator of the 1965 UFO crash incident that occurred near Kecksburg, PA.

Does it Ever End?

For a while, I suppose, the revelation of a secret UFO (UAP) project at the Pentagon, in a New York Times article in 2017, may have seemed a revelation. Despite one’s political persuasion, the Times is mostly regarded as an authoritative source, so this had to be something significant.
Since the paper was published, it appears that no less than four Pentagon-based UFO groups have been introduced, one after the other. In each case, the mission appears to be the same, and that’s not necessarily to search for extraterrestrial life. It’s largely about determining whether the presence of this phenomenon represents a potential threat to U.S. national security.
Certainly, if another country had developed aircraft that could fly rings around us, it would be a matter of extreme concern. That is particularly true if any of those countries were regarded as adversaries.
But that does not appear to be the case. Certainly it’s not Russia, which would fare far better in its undeclared war against Ukraine. Ditto for China, which might employ such alleged advanced technology to gain control of Taiwan.
But a key problem with these new investigations is that they appear to pretend that the past does not exist. There were no sightings prior to the 2004 U.S.S. Nimitz “Tic Tac” encounters. The Air Force is no longer in the flying saucer business, despite the existence of the late Project Blue Book and its successors, and its more recent reports debunking Roswell.
The members of the U.S. Congress aren’t asking those questions, though it does appear they aren’t satisfied with the way things are.
So there’s a May 2, 2022 story in POLITICO, another news site that has broken reports about government UFO investigations. The title says it all: “The UFO briefings on Capital Hill have begun. Lawmakers aren’t impressed.”
Reporter Bryan Bender writes that classified progress reports were delivered to members of the Senate Intelligence and Armed Services committees, which are charged with managing such matters. The reports describe the latest efforts by the Pentagon to evaluate UFOs, based on the current defense appropriations bill for the 2022 fiscal year.
According to the article, “Five current and former military and intelligence officials and contractor personnel privy to the deliberations who were not authorized to speak publicly told POLITICO they believe real progress is being made to compel agencies to take a more proactive approach — and also be more transparent about what they might know about UFO sightings and technologies.”
Maybe so, but maybe the legislators want more information about what’s being done to satisfy their concerns.
The article also goes on to extensively quote Luis Elizondo, who may or may not have headed up one of those UAP task forces, but he doesn’t provide a great deal of illumination on the matter. With a book coming out, and ongoing appearances in the public media, he wants to present himself as some kind of UFO expert.
But little in what he says, so far, reveals any significant details about UFOs that we didn’t already know, or even that he is well acquainted with details about the hundreds of thousands of sightings reported around the world since the end of World War II.
Sure, maybe it doesn’t make sense to concern oneself with the shortcomings of previous efforts by the U.S. government to investigate UFOs. Unless there is a genuine Silence Group, keeping a deep dark secret about the phenomenon, it makes more sense to actually look at the evidence and take it where it leads.
Going forward, it’s encouraging to see the U.S. government willing to take the topic seriously, and make it easier for the military to report sightings and have them investigated. That was the early promise with Project Blue Book, and maybe it operated that way when Captain Edward J. Ruppelt was in charge, but after his departure, it descended to a largely PR operation meant to debunk UFO reality.
I’d like to think the new studies will bring results. Ongoing concerns appear to be non-partisan, coming from the likes of Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a New York Democrat, and Senator Marco Rubio, a Republican. That politicians from both parties get together on anything is a miracle these days.
Besides, it’s not at all clear there is a genuine constituency of UFO believers to which they must pander in order to get reelected. And, yes, I know that Senator Rubio is reportedly considering another run for President. But it’s not that politicians who have said positive things about the topic are being eviscerated by the opposition.
Take the 2016 election for President. Candidate Hillary Clinton said positive things about finding the answer to the UFO mystery on several occasions, including appearances on late night television.
Her opponent, now Former President Donald Trump, had no response that I know of. I’d think that after his silly complaints about “crooked Hillary,” and unfounded assertions that she was physically incapable of holding the job, he’d have jumped on the UFO statements as evidence.
Other than to express positive views about finding the answers, politicians by and large are giving UFOs short shrift these days.
Unfortunately, I don’t think the new Pentagon efforts will amount to much. That POLITICO article hasn’t made a big splash except, perhaps, to the people who seriously follow the topic. It is not a major issue on cable TV news, which is largely focused on what are regarded as more critical matters, such as war in the Ukraine.
It’s understandable, unfortunately. If there is any possibility at all that we are being visited by offworld beings from somewhere out there, it should become one of the most important stories in human history. But that’s hardly getting any consideration.
Now it may be true that the Pentagon’s UAP study will someday bear fruit, and that there will be an announcement confirming UFO reality in some fashion. That’s the hope, but the story may also disappear after awhile if fewer and fewer people are paying attention.
And the Pentagon study group will be quietly disbanded.
And just chasing a bunch of sightings won’t take us anywhere. That’s been shown time and time again as people in the UFO field continue to collect compelling sighting reports.
