This Week's Episode: Gene and cohost Tim Swartz introduce conspiracy theory expert Donald Jeffries, who brings listeners to The Paracast what may be the ultimate conspiracy theory. So his book "From Strawberry Fields to Abbey Road: A Billy Shears Story," written along with Don Wilson, explores one of the wildest rumors to ever come out of the entertainment world — the "Paul is Dead" legend. The authors detail the history behind the rumor, and numerous figures from show business, as well as Beatles experts, share their own thoughts on the subject, as well as how the Beatles impacted their lives. Jeffries first began researching the JFK assassination in the mid-1970s as a teenage volunteer with Mark Lane's Citizens Committee of Inquiry. His books include the best-sellers "Hidden History: an Expose of Modern Crimes," "Conspiracies, and Cover-Ups in American Politics," "Survival of the Richest: How the Corruption of the Marketplace and the Disparity of Wealth Created the Greatest Conspiracy of All," "Crimes and Cover-Ups in American Politics: 1776-1963," "Bullyocracy: How the Social Hierarchy Enables Bullies to Rule Schools, Workplaces, and Society at Large" and "On Borrowed Fame: Money, Mysteries, and Corruption in the Entertainment World."

After The Paracast — Available exclusively for Paracast+ subscribers on June 18: Conspiracy theorist Donald Jeffries visits Gene and cohost Tim Swartz and continues to explain the reasons for his distrust of authority. He talks about the UFO mystery and how governments treat the matter, the alleged UFO whistleblower David Grusch and his increasingly extreme claims about secret UFO evidence, the harmful effects to public information from media consolation, reports of the Men In Black, and the fact that people these days appear to exist in two realities. Jeffries began researching the JFK assassination in the mid-1970s as a teenage volunteer with Mark Lane's Citizens Committee of Inquiry. His latest book is "From Strawberry Fields to Abbey Road: A Billy Shears Story," written along with Don Wilson. It's an absorbing look at one of the wildest rumors to ever come out of the entertainment world — the infamous "Paul McCartney is Dead" legend.

UFO Conspiracies and More UFO Conspiracies
By Gene Steinberg

For regular listeners to The Paracast, perhaps the ultimate conspiracy theory is the UFO mystery. Are we really and truly being visited by one or more intelligent races from another world?

It is certainly a romantic concept, at least based upon many of those sci-fi shows that depict friendly aliens. And even if the aliens aren’t so friendly, we’ll find a way to defeat them, or our space brothers will come to rescue us.

However, this presumes that such a truth has been kept hidden by the governments of Earth. Perhaps they fear panic if the presence of alien visitors were known, or the negative impact to the energy producers, or perhaps organized religion. It may also be true that one country may want to leg up on another country, and so they keep their knowledge of the alien presence under wraps unless or until they find a way to exploit the situation.

I would find it hard to believe, for example, that most members of the U.N. would agree on anything, let alone something as significant as this.

Indeed, if this was all true, you’d think that a genuine whistleblower would appear to disclose the truth.

Well, all right, there is David Grusch, the reported whistleblower who is presently making the rounds of the media doing just that, or at least his perception of the truth. But it seems that his so-far-unproven claims continue to become more elaborate. So the other day he added possible inter-dimensional visitors to the mix. Add that to the claims that we have captured aliens and spacecraft, and it demonstrates that ET hasn’t learned to perfect their technology so such mishaps do not occur.

I wouldn’t say that Grusch is making it all up, but nothing he says comes with any evidence. He’s seen it or heard it, but he can’t prove a word of it.

Indeed, his very presence may just serve to help debunk the more elaborate theories about UFO reality. So is that his purpose, or is he just a deluded individual whose whistleblower status is tolerated because he is regarded as just another wacky person with wacky claims?

The only difference this time is that he’s received support from people you’d think would know better, such as the writers of the original published report about him. From Ralph Blumenthal and Leslie Kean, it appeared in The Debrief, an online publication specializing in news about science, technology and defense.

These are credible people. So Blumenthal, who worked for 45 years at The New York Times, led the reporting team that won a Pulitzer for coverage of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

At the same time, some complications have been added to the mix, such as the recent decision by the attorneys who got him official whistleblower status, Compass Rose Legal Group, apparently no longer represent him.

They have since issued a statement to that effect. And they made it clear they worked for him strictly on his whistleblower issue. The statement included these telltale remarks: “The whistleblower disclosure did not speak to the specifics of the alleged classified information that Mr. Grusch has now publicly characterized, and the substance of that information has always been outside of the scope of Compass Rose’s representation. Compass Rose took no position and takes no position on the contents of the withheld information.”

Such a statement seems out of the range for a normal legal response, which seems to indicate that they just don’t want to get involved in his claims of hidden evidence of ET reality.

In the end, the renewed credibility of UFO sightings hasn’t taken us any closer to understanding what is really going on. All we have, so far, are unsupported claims and, one hopes, more ways to report sightings without much blowback.

But I’m not saying Grusch is lying, making things up. It may well be that he is a genuine whistleblower who has seen things that demonstrate the presence of ET on planet Earth. Maybe. But you also have to consider that if he is personally aware of such things, that knowledge would come to him under strict secrecy protocols. Even a whistleblower would not be able to reveal classified information, however important he considers the matter.

National secrets are national secrets.

It might be that these others deliberately told him about the presence of crashed flying saucers and the bodies of its crew. Maybe they did that to send someone out to the public to spread disinformation. It wouldn’t be the first time.

Nowadays government credibility is at a low ebb. We also live in a society, at least here in the U.S., where one group of people continue to deny that the President is really the President.

In this environment, even revealing a supposed truth about what UFOs are would yield mixed reactions. The possibility that the President will one day reveal the truth disclosure advocates want him (or her) to reveal would have unexpected consequences.

That said, if such evidence exists, would it be in the hands of a single government? It’s not that UFO sightings are restricted to any one country. Certainly the autocratic leaders of Russia, China, Iran and similar countries would want to one up their presumed enemies if they truly had guilty knowledge of UFO reality and possible access to crashed flying saucers.

If they possess such knowledge it would, one supposes, be used to leverage claims of superior technology, part of a scheme to subjugate other countries. But it’s clear they have no such capability, at least not in Russia. If Putin had access to working extraterrestrial technology, surely he’d use it to advance his war against Ukraine. Instead, the primitive nature of his weaponry remains a source of embarrassment.

In any case, those hoping for a solution to the UFO enigma have to, I fear, keep waiting. It just isn’t coming anytime soon. The whistleblower might have seemed an encouraging development, but as his comments take on a more extreme character, it’s fair to suspect his motives.

Or maybe he’s just another crank making unfounded claims about the presence of aliens in our midst. I am surprised, then, how seriously he is being taken even though he hasn’t produced a shred of evidence that anything he says is true.

And that’s the way it is, so far at least.
