UFOs in South America and in Antiquity Explored on The Paracast

Special Announcement: The Paracast is heard Sundays from 2:00 AM until 5:00 AM Central Time on the GCN Radio Network and affiliates around the USA, and online across the globe via download and on-demand streaming.

We Hope You'll Send a Donation to The Paracast: Although ads help cover a small part of our expenses, the income they produce is never enough. Also, we do not receive any revenue from the ads placed on the show by our network or local stations. So we hope you're able to help fill the gap if you can to help us cover increasing server costs and other expenses -- or perhaps provide a little extra cash for lunch. No contribution is too small (or too large :). We have a Donate link on our home page, below the logo and audio player. There's also a Donate link on our forums, at the bottom of the sidebar on the right. Or just send your PayPal donation direct to sales (at) theparacast (dot) com.

Attention U.S. Listeners: Help Us Bring The Paracast to Your City! In the summer of 2010, The Paracast joined the GCN radio network. This represented a huge step in bringing our show to a larger, mainstream audience. But we need your help to add additional affiliates to our growing network. Please ask one of your local talk stations if they are interested in carrying The Paracast. Feel free to contact us directly with the names of programming people we might be able to contact on your behalf. We can't do this alone, and if you succeed in convincing your local station to carry the show, we'll reward you with one of our special T-shirts, and other goodies. With your help, The Paracast can grow into one of the most popular paranormal shows on the planet!

Please Visit Our Brand New Online Store: You asked, and we answered. We are now taking orders for The Official Paracast T-Shirt and an expanded collection of other specially customized merchandise. Set Up: The Paracast is a paranormal radio show that takes you on a journey to a world beyond science, where UFOs, poltergeists and strange phenomena of all kinds have been reported by millions. The Paracast seeks to shed light on the mysteries and complexities of our Universe and the secrets that surround us in our everyday lives.

Join long-time paranormal researcher Gene Steinberg, co-host and acclaimed field investigator Christopher O'Brien, and a panel of special guest experts and experiencers, as they explore the realms of the known and unknown. Listen each week to the great stories of the history of the paranormal field in the 20th and 21st centuries.

This Week's Episode: Gene and Chris present a return visit by veteran UFO researcher Antonio Huneeus, an editor of Open Minds magazine, who recently wrote an intriguing article about the Mayans, 2012 and UFOs and an expose of the official Committee for the Study of Aerial Anomalous Phenomena (CEFAA) documents, from Chile, and the role of CEFAA Director Air Force General (Ret) Ricardo Bermudez, who spoke at this year's International UFO Congress. Lots of intriguing ground will be covered during this interview.

Can We Overcome Conventional Wisdom?
By Gene Steinberg

When I quoted that poll last week, which indicated that a third of the people in the U.S. believe in UFOs, I realized that this belief is all about spaceships. The TV shows about UFOs, including National Geographic’s “Chasing UFOs,” all assume that we are dealing with potential visits from an intelligent species spawned on another planet, no doubt circling another star system. How could it be otherwise?

Now it’s also fair to say that probably more than 99% of the people who participated in that poll are totally unaware of other theories to explain UFO origins. It’s not as if the works of such researchers as John Keel, Jacques Vallee, and many others with alternative viewpoints, have garnered a whole lot of attention beyond what we call the UFO field. Even when such theories are discussed, it’s usually ET first, distantly followed by the others.

Even the late Mac Tonnies’ final book, ‘The Cryptoterrestrials,” which posited an Earth-based advanced civilization hidden from humans, was described by his friends as a thought experiment. It’s not at all clear how seriously he entertained the proposition. His death came before the book was actually finished, so it’s possible some of his theories and evidence would have been fleshed out further.

Understand that I wouldn’t presume to suggest that the ETH (extraterrestrial hypothesis) is necessarily wrong. The problem in this field is that far too many of you accept it as a given, without considering other options. Yes, I realize the possibility of diverse life in the universe increases almost every single day. More and more planets orbiting around other stars have been discovered. The building blocks of life are not restricted to Earth. There’s even water on Mars, although few expect that there are intelligent beings roaming the dead seas of Barsoom, the name given to that planet in the John Carter novels from the late Edgar Rice Burroughs in the last century.

So maybe there’s no reason to think about an ETH alternative inasmuch as the chances for intelligent life elsewhere in the universe are high. By sheer numbers alone, you have to expect that some of those life forms have developed highly advanced civilizations and are able to travel across the stars within a reasonable amount of time. Perhaps they even use such space ripping tricks as the “warp drive” in “Star Trek,” so the journey takes days or weeks instead of decades or centuries.

At the same time, it’s also clear that most UFO sightings are terrestrial, in the sense that we see the aircraft in our own skies. Although there have been a few reports of UFOs in space, it might only indicate that, if real, the source behind the UFOs can travel in space or near-space. But that doesn’t prove their origin by any means.

In addition to a terrestrial civilization, and taking it seriously may be a stretch, some suggest that UFOs represent craft that beams in here from another dimension or parallel universe. Think of something that exists in the same time and space as we do, but is maybe separated in a way that prevents each universe from being aware of the existence of the other. Of course, many of you see that play out in fiction on the TV sci-fi series, “Fringe.” I wouldn’t suggest, though, that this parallel universe is inhabited by alternate versions of you and I.

Another possibility is that our visitors come here from another time, perhaps our future. There is that sci-fi paradox where someone visiting the past may, inadvertently, do something that impacts the future. But it may also be that what they do is already a part of history, so their actions were already accounted for, and so it goes.

Other theories speak of a phenomenon that we do not actually perceive in its true form. Our cultural consciousness, collective conscious, or whatever, alters the form so that we can understand what we are seeing. Perhaps cultural conditioning has something to do with it. So in ancient times, we met advanced beings we regarded as Gods, while in other times, we met up with such fanciful beings as fairies or elves. Today, it is ET, grays, tall blond humanoids…you get the picture.

Now if UFOs aren’t spaceships, I suppose that hopes and dreams of disclosure by Earth governments will never be realized. Or perhaps they are aware that UFOs represent a reality that is not so readily explained, and hence they have little choice but to keep it all a secret. What choice do they have? It’s not as if the nuts and bolts of that explanation can be reduced to a few sound bites. Or it may well be that the authorities understand that they are confronting a phenomenon that they do not understand. But those who are charged with our defense are certainly going to be reluctant to admit they are just plain stumped. How would a country’s citizens react to such a revelation?

One thing is certain: Unless events conspire to change something in a serious way, I do not expect the UFO mystery to be solved anytime soon. I have decades of evidence to demonstrate that expected solutions may never come. Or perhaps they will take us to a new level of understanding that raises even more questions.
