Please Consider a Donation to The Paracast: Although ads help cover a small part of our expenses, the income they produce is never enough. Also, we do not receive any revenue from the ads placed on the show by our network or local stations. So we hope you're able to help fill the gap if you can to help us cover increasing server costs and other expenses -- or perhaps provide a little extra cash for lunch. No contribution is too small (or too large :). We have a Donate link on our home page, below the logo and audio player. There's also a Donate link on our forums, at the bottom of the sidebar on the right. Or just send your PayPal donation direct to sales (at) theparacast (dot) com.

Attention U.S. Listeners: Help Us Bring The Paracast to Your City! Last summer, The Paracast joined the GCN radio network. This represented a huge step in bringing our show to a larger, mainstream audience. But we need your help to add additional affiliates to our growing network. Please ask one of your local talk stations if they are interested in carrying The Paracast. Feel free to contact us directly with the names of programming people we might be able to contact on your behalf. We can't do this alone, and if you succeed in convincing your local station to carry the show, we'll reward you with one of our special T-shirts, and other goodies. With your help, The Paracast can grow into one of the most popular paranormal shows on the planet!

Please Visit Our Brand New Online Store: You asked, and we answered. We are now taking orders for The Official Paracast T-Shirt and an expanded collection of other specially customized merchandise. Have We Really Contacted ET?
By Gene Steinberg

If you believe in some reports about UFO abductions and contactees, ET has been having regular meetings with Earthlings. Sometimes the meetings are intended to express concerns over the way we treat this planet, while others are silent and frightening encounters, where the aliens stare impassively as our insides are invaded with strangely primitive medical instruments.

Now regular listeners to The Paracast know that I have serious concerns about so-called “traditional” contact stories. When it comes to abductions, I do feel that something has actually happened to these people, but there may be a number of explanations. It’s not as straightforward as it seems, but that’s worth another discussion at another time.

If any of those episodes involve genuine contacts with intelligent beings from another planet, the population at large isn’t being impacted to any great degree, because the claims are largely disbelieved. The media may report the stories, but with winks and nods and sometimes sarcastic humor. How could our society be harmed by something that never really happened, except, perhaps, in the minds of the alleged participants?

So even if some of these claims are genuine, ET has the advantage of operating in plain sight but going mostly unnoticed. No sense worrying about the impact to our society if “First Contact” has yet to occur. We can just look at the issue theoretically, while continuing to discover more and more possibly habitable planets in far-off star systems.

Besides, if ET lives so many light years from us, and travel faster than light is still theoretically impossible, there’s no sense being concerned that they truly have arrived. Of course, you can’t dismiss the possibility of city-sized spaceships journeying decades or centuries to reach a destination. In a circumstances such as this, the pilots who actually arrive may be descendants of the original travelers. There are certainly plenty of science fiction tales of this sort.

But what if a single or massed landing took place in public, with the media, public officials and billions of us watching? How would we react? Would a frightened soldier accidentally fire at an alien exiting from a space ship, similar to the episode depicted in the classic science fiction movie “The Day the Earth Stood Still”? Or would ET care enough to stage the encounter in a setting involving public officials they’ve already contacted, hidden from anyone but a select few? Or has that already happened?

But when the day comes that we know ET is among us, things can never be the same. You can say we would accept their presence, but that would seem a big stretch. The dominance of energy companies would vanish when it became obvious that there were new sources of energy that rendered our excessive dependance on fossil fuels as exercises in futility. When it comes to our religions, it is convenient to say that, since god created the universe, god also created the aliens. Thus it’s all part of a divine plan.

On the other hand, if the aliens do not have a religion, or codes of ethics that we do not understand, would that create serious problems for the organized religions? We sometimes find it hard enough to tolerate people with different religious beliefs, so how would we deal with aliens that expressed even more drastic differences?

Indeed, the very presence of advanced beings from out there could have a catastrophic impact to our society, witness how our own primitive civilizations have floundered in the presence of more advanced visitors from other countries.

I suppose if ET had a proper code of ethics, or at least one that isn’t too alien, they might consider the negative consequences of their attempts to communicate with us. Maybe we have to reach a certain state of civilized behavior, or develop a certain level of technology, before they take us seriously.

Consider one of the best “Star Trek” movies, where “First Contact” did not occur until an eccentric earth scientist developed a spaceship with faster-than-light capability (warp drive) and took a test flight at just the right time for ET to observe the event.

Maybe ET will continue to operate in the shadows until the right time. Or maybe they just don’t care, in which case the unpredictable might happen regardless of the consequences.

  • Assuming we've been visited by alien craft, does that necessitate EBEs? No.
  • Even if there are EBEs does that necessitate human/EBE contact? No.
  • If there aren't any EBEs does that necessitate non-intellingence? No.
If we have a non-EBE intelligence then we are dealing with intelligent alien technology. It might be integrated into the craft, or be an independent robotic intelligence, or some other manifestation created by the craft for the purpose of interaction with the environment. Such a manifestation could conceivably be made to mimic any species provided sufficient data was available. But where would the data come from ... if not a specimen ... or two ... or three ...?

Its an idea i have considered myself, Artificial/synthetic/robotic intellect wouldnt need biological pilots or crew, it could simply contruct biological waldoes from the materiel native to the planet being visited

these devices became popularly known as "waldoes". In reference to this story, the real-life remote manipulators that were later developed also came to be called waldoes
