ET Versus Earth People
By Gene Steinberg

I suppose it’s comforting to know that the supposed extraterrestrial entities that contact Earthlings are kind, gentle, and wish only the best for us. To quote a phrase often used by the late UFO writer and hoaxer Gray Barker, “they are here to help us rather than to harm us.”

But how, then, are we supposed to know that?

The obvious answer, according to just about all experiencers, is because that’s what they were told. The messages are fairly similar in content, that they are concerned with our warlike ways and want us to follow the path of peace and brotherhood.

All worthy goals, but most of the people who report these encounters aren’t in positions of power. They are just regular folk, and their claims may be embraced by a few, but not by many.

With nearly eight billion people on Planet Earth, and planetary conditions that never seem to improve, those higher beings aren’t making much progress. Just contacting random people here and there isn’t going to cut it. If they truly want humans to straighten out and follow a righteous path, they need to get their acts together.

Their efforts are largely feckless.

I mean, what would Russia’s authoritarian dictator Vladimir Putin say if he were abducted by a flying saucer, or had some sort of channeling experience with ET? Would he abandon his war of destruction against Ukraine and make peace?

Would he commit himself to the nearest asylum for the mentally ill? Or would he just ignore the message and go on doing evil deeds? And in the unlikely event all of that happened, what would those higher beings do to enforce their wishes?

So if you believe that I am skeptical of the existence of higher beings that have our best interests in mind, you can see why. Nothing they do makes any noticeable difference. Having a few thousand — or even a few million — followers around the world isn’t going to deliver much progress. To most, such people are regarded as a bunch of eccentrics or crazies who may have imagined their alleged encounters.

Again, why believe ET, or whatever they are?

Just because they might have a more sophisticated bag of tricks doesn’t mean they must be nice. They could very well be playing mind games. Perhaps they want us to have a false sense of security. We might very well be in danger of some sort of power move from ET, but if we believe them to be peaceful, we might not notice possible evidence of treachery.

As I’ve mentioned in previous columns, I’m reminded as to how the issue of deceitful aliens is treated in sci-fi. So we have the 1983 TV mini-series, “V,” and its 2009 successor. Attractive aliens land on Earth, proclaiming their benevolent nature. Only they are evil, reptilians in disguise, who mean to take us over.

Sure, just a work of fiction, and only modestly successful.

But such a concept surely has some reality behind it. If ET wanted to take over Earth, would they stage acts of violence, destruction, to wipe us all out? Would it echo the scenario depicted in the 1996 movie, “Independence Day”?

One would think it be far better to do something more subtle, a quiet takeover, something less apt to be discovered before it’s too late.

We are dealing here with speculation, and I wouldn’t pretend to have any evidence of what is going on. Even though I do accept the fact that UFOs are being observed doing amazing maneuvers, that doesn’t necessarily mean they are spaceships.

And even if they are spaceships, it would seem that they are not necessarily engaging in benevolent behavior. How could one possibly accept ET as having peaceful intentions if they kidnap unwitting people and subject them to physical exams?

How is that benevolent?

Indeed, their behavior appears to put the lie to their proclamations of peace and love, but that doesn’t mean they want to invade. They may not really care how we primitive humans react, and they just want to fulfill their mission, whatever it is. Maybe they just want to mess with us?

Whatever is going on, many fans of UFO lore believe that the governments of Earth, or at least some of them, know the truth, and are hiding it for reasons best known to themselves.

There are the obvious consequences of knowledge that advanced beings are visiting Earth. How would that reality impact private industry, especially those engaged in the production of energy, such as fossil fuels?

It would appear to make all their technology obsolete overnight, but that assumes ET would have any interest in sharing it with us. That is something else entirely.

I can, however, imagine ET quietly contacting key members of governments around the world, promising them wonders we can’t imagine in exchange for full commitments to peace.

I can imagine it, but there is no evidence anything of this sort is happening.

But what if it were true that ET had evil designs upon humanity? What if Earth governments knew the truth, but had to conceal the danger until — and it may not be possible — they’ve devised a defense. In the meantime, no words are uttered that would reveal the truth.

Certainly most of those who believe that we are being visited by flying saucers from outer space do not consider that they have anything other than peaceful intentions.

But perhaps being taken over by ET wouldn’t be so bad. It’s not as if Earth governments have been terribly successful in giving the populace calm, peaceful and productive lives. When it comes to tribal conflicts, if it doesn’t happen in one place, it happens in another, and there seems to be no letup in the constant warfare.

At the same time, hundreds of millions of people on this planet don’t know where their next meals are coming from, and may not even have a home in which to safely raise their families.

When you see the constant infighting among different government factions in search of power, it’s not at all clear that any country has a handle on getting this tragic situation under control. It is not unreasonable to believe that things are only getting worse.

But if ET did assume control of Earth, would that be a good thing, or merely open our doors to eternal slavery?

Then again, if we found less-advanced intelligent beings on another planet, how would we treat them? With understanding or with the goal of dominance?
