Is the Press in Cahoots with the Government on UFOs?
All right, let's look at the prevailing conspiracy theory: The U.S. government knows the answers to the UFO enigma, and has suppressed that proof for reasons best known to themselves. What those reasons might be is anyone's guess, although the possibilities are certainly clear and present.
Consider the question of national security. We expect the authorities to protect us from harm, and admitting that we may be undergoing visitations by advanced craft of unknown origin would not just represent a betrayal of that trust, but potentially cause panic in the streets.
Now you may not believe that such panic is possible, but the long-term memory of the government includes that infamous Orson Welles radio adaption of "War of the Worlds," where millions were frightened out of their wits. Evidently they failed to hear or understand the announcements during the pseudo-documentary that it was all a work of fiction.
You can't imagine anyone living in a civilized country in the 21st century actually believing such a thing, but there would nonetheless be serious consequences. What about the impact to the world economic structure, religions and so on and so forth? What if it turned out that the governments actually had no clue what was really going on, and that might indeed cause the panic they wanted to avoid.
Similarly, despite the lurid fantasies woven by some in the UFO field, there is no evidence whatever that ET and Earthbound governments are engaged in some sort of grand conspiracy of one sort or another that allows strange craft and certain strange activities -- such as abductions -- to proceed unfettered.
The other stage of such conspiratorial thinking is that the press has become a willing participant. Imagine, for example, the NSA sending operatives to publisher Rupert Murdoch and requesting � make that demanding � that he restrict coverage of UFOs in his newspapers and TV outlets to entertainment fare. Consider the possibility that similar pacts have been made with all the major media outlets.
At a time where few believe anything the government says or does, why should we take seriously the possibility that the press is complicit in this grand scheme? Would the NSA, for example, actually expect such efforts to bear fruit, or would they just backfire?
Wouldn't it make more sense to, as some suggest, hide in plain sight, by infiltrating the UFO field and putting out false information intermixed with the real, to simply confuse and befuddle everyone? The UFO field seems mixed up enough already, and it may well be that such dirty tricks would be easy to accomplish.
Sure, among the vast horde of UFO data, the truth may truly be out there. But will it ever be really possible to separate the signal from the noise?
