Are Those Strange Creatures from Here or Elsewhere?
By Gene Steinberg

When it comes to UFOs, the consensus has it that, if real, they aren’t from here. Visitors from outer space is the major explanation for UFOs, although some suggest they come from other dimensions or are perhaps humans traveling here from another time. But there are theories that take UFOs closer to home, perhaps a race that coexists with our own but somehow remains undetected, except, of course, for their flying ships.

Another phenomenon sometimes connected with UFOs is the appearance of strange, or at least unknown creatures. Maybe they are the hairy beasts often referred to as Bigfoot, or perhaps the aquatic creature that we know as the Loch Ness Monster. From dinosaurs to frighteningly large snakes, reports of such creatures abound.

There are reports and, indeed, legends of the presence of creatures that seem strange or unusual throughout history. Talk to the indigenous peoples around the world, and you’ll hear loads of stories that are carried through the ages by oral and written traditions. It’s easy to dismiss such reports as just fairy tales, but the reports continue to this present day.

Despite the wealth of anecdotal information, getting hard evidence has proven to be difficult. We do not, for example, have definable DNA evidence to indicate that Bigfoot exists and is some sort of new species. Supposed footprints appear to be subject to dispute, and photographs, where they seem to be genuine, often display distant shapes that just can’t be properly identified.

Notice that I haven’t considered the possibility of hoaxes. But that just muddies the waters.

Now it has long been suggested in the paranormal field that such elusive creatures as Bigfoot really aren’t from here. They live in a parallel universe, perhaps, and they accidentally stray into our plane of existence through a sort of dimensional portal. This brings to mind the UK sci-fi TV show, “Primeval,” where the British countryside suddenly becomes littered with these doorways, known as “anomalies.” It’s a fun-filled adventure, mostly focusing on the “monster on the loose” concept, along with a few conspiracy theories to keep the interest high.

The real question, though, is whether there’s any truth to such parallel universe theories, or whether they are just convenient excuses to explain the lack of real evidence. After all, if these strange creatures can just wink out of our existence when we get too close, we will never, ever be able to find them. They will just return home and leave us mystified. But that also implies a deliberate act, that such creatures are intelligent enough to know when to leave, or how to do it.

At the same time, people involved in the study of cryptozoology, defined as the search for animals whose existence has not been proven, will often state that such creatures are real, they are physical, and they come from here. It’s just that we need to continue the search in order to confirm their existence. It doesn’t require a paranormal explanation, and there may be no connection whatever to UFOs and other strange apparitions. Or maybe ET is actually a group of alien zoologists who are here to catalogue terrestrial species.

Convincing scientists to accept the possibility that such things exist, however, remains difficult. It’s very hard to convince people who regard such reports as fanciful, or cases of mistaken identity, to actually do the hard research to get the necessary evidence.

But it’s also true that we are discovering new species on our planet all the time. It is a monumental exercise in foolishness to believe that we know everything about our own planet, let alone the mysteries that lurk throughout the universe.

Of course, none of this means there are no paranormal creatures somehow connected with UFO cases, or who, perhaps, originate from another plane of existence. That, however, requires a further stretch of logic or reason, and the bar of evidence must be raised.

At the same time, so long as reports of unknown creatures persist, the mysteries remain. They are not readily dismissed. But it seems that, as soon as one solution is found, there will be even more mysteries to confront.
