Now here's a really useful resource. Anybody up for correlating UFO sightings with magnetic anomalies at the earth's surface??? Could be a fascinating exercise to see if there is any relationship between the two. Might give at least a part explanation for sightings of various aerial phenomena (??).

Well some people believe it is, and as brain activity can be manipulated by magnetic fields ... I don't see why it can't be eliminated as a possible cause. I think all possibilities should be considered and then (possibly) eliminated no matter how fruitloopy they may seem. There is an arrogance among scientists who say "oh it definitely can't be so-and-so" ... well do some bloody research, come up with evidence to prove that it isn't "so-and-so" and then you can make definitive statements.

[Other thoughts: Some kinds of rock do have interesting magnetic properties. Other rocks like granite can hold a level of radioactivity. Wonder why I'll never have one of the posh granite table tops in my kitchen?? :D ... who knows what the ground beneath our feet is doing to our brains??? Discuss :D]
 
it could be that there are multiple reasons.... i can understand that magnetics may be responsible for the plasma type objects that are observed, but as for structured craft that appear to be intelligently controlled, I have more trouble with.

Unless as you say, the magnetic disturbences cause hallucinegetic effects :S

A certain percentage may be ... or maybe the structured craft UFOs are attracted to certain magnetic anomalies in parts of the earth's crust (??). I just think its an avenue worth exploring. We cannot put all our eggs in the ETH basket. Its too restricting in my mind.
 
I agree with the not putting all our eggs in one basket idea, I think that only works for the Easter Bunny, and hes in hibernation at the moment ;) . Catagorising all such phonemena along with a single cause does produce restrictions in a field where there doesnt appear to be any haha. I dont for one moment believe that all the weirdness surrounding UFOs can be explained by one theory or paradigm, there are just too many variables involved.

I think magnetism, gravity are fields which a poorly understood at best and these craft may 'use' them in ways which we dont even know exist.

Thanks ... thats really interesting. I think that what the MADAR experiment tried to do would be a really cool thing to pick up again ... what with the better electronics, more sensitive instruments and the such-like we have today. Also the number crunching abilities of your humble desktop computer today of course is without doubt hugely more powerful than those in 1991 when the experiment ended.

Hmmm ... I might have to swot up on my electromagnetism and stuff :P

Argghh ... just (finally) listened to the Joseph Citro paracast interview. See ... I WAS right cos it was on The Paracast. Maybe I'm not so stupid after all :D
