Why do most guests seem so arrogant and conceited?

Pompetus of Love
It seems to me that a lot of UFO and Paranormal writers come across as your typical mildly sociopathic, arrogant, conceited geeks. Brad Steiger certainly fits the bill. Could he praise himself any more than he did in the current show? Could he pick up a few more affected (purposely odd to draw attention to himself) pronunciations of common words? Just really annoying and this is all too darned typical in guests.

Grrrr.

HAHAHHA! A man (or woman) after my own heart I see.:P

There have been plenty of the type you describe lately. I think Brad seems like a very nice guy, but he turns me off somehow. In fact, I am debating whether I want to even listen to this latest episode. But to be fair, we could do far worse than Brad Steiger, I mean at least the guy is sane.

And I am glad to see I'm not the only one annoyed by his freakish pronunciation of common words. I have heard him on 2 different podcasts pronounce puberty as "pooberty" :D .... why why why?

I just listened to the current show. Yes his pronunciations are weird. Yes I used to fast-forward through his ad for "at the signpost up ahead" every time it came on because he was laying it on too thick. However, I wouldn't describe Steiger as "sociopathic". It's not an accurate use of the term. Ted Bundy was a sociopath.

Just finished listening to the show.

I thought it was great, and enjoyed it.

Totally disagree with your assessment.

Nothing sociopathic. Cynical, maybe.

I like guests like Brad because Gene and David can just let their guard down and have a 2 hour conversation about everything. I thought this was a great show. The 2 hrs flew buy.

a friend of mine who is a psyciatrist, once pronounced me a sociopath lacking in social and moral concience, which is more or less true. i prefer the terms pragmatic or honest, though to describe my world view.
there are a very high proportion of sociopaths in most societys, its not necessarily a bad thing to be one. most people associate the word with psycopath, which is a bad thing.

What is with this psychology/psychiarty talk. I thought Tom Cruise exposed that fraud long ago. Yeah, here is the article.

Stieger is like Art Bell, old time radio. He uses tricks to keep the listener alert and enticed. He just talks at times, which is great, but his schtick, the sudden melodious drawing out of a phrase is pure drama of The Shadow era. It doesn't sell well these days, but one can't fault the man completely. It's funny and he makes for a very interesting show otherwise.

I'm really glad that David kept asking: So, where are these artifacts?

It's a valid question for someone who is making money publishing books on them.

Oh wait, I forgot, the firebug conspiracy to burn down all anomalous artifacts and bones once someone publishes them.

Until you excavate Steiger's backyard, you'll never know...

David Biedny is somewhat arrogant and conceited at times, certainly geeky. He's also a very intelligent, sometimes brilliant and entertaining guy. I listen to the Paracast because the show's topics interest me, it entertains me, and on some occasions I actually learn a thing or two.

It's ironic that you chose Stewie from the Family Guy as your avatar. Stewie is one of the most arrogant, self-centered characters ever created. You probably subconsciously find arrogant characters entertaining. :shy:

I don't get that impression from Brad Steiger at all. He is just a well-read, well educated man, who has spent many years researching these topics. Don't be intimidated by his intellegence. I very much enjoyed the program.
