Okay, first time I have been able to get online in a couple of days. If you tuned in on last Fridays show you will know that the program was really running hot and I could not get the audio levels right. Well this past weekend my sound card died. Went out on Monday and bought a new one, installed it and then it would not talk to my Adobe Audition and suddenly my desktop, which I use for the show, refused to go online. Everything refused to go online. Called my provider and nothing I did would fix the problem. Finally I disconnected my router and tried to just feed the internet into the desktop and still nothing. I then tried my crappy laptop and that is how I am communicating now. The network has been running previous shows until I get this thing fixed. I may have to get a new router and then figure out what in hell is happening with my soundcard. I wanted to give you all a heads up.

bummer Don,

i know from experience soundcards can cause problems depending on what avaliable pci-x or I'm guessing in your case an open pci slot. Try moving it to another pci slot, as it can screw up your network resource if it shares the same or close IRQ. This is usually automatically assigned by the operating system when you first boot. Sounds odd to me your router went out at the same time, I'm thinking your sound card is interfering with that resource in your OS. If i can ask what brand of sound card did you buy and if it is a new version did you uninstall the previous sound card drivers before installing the new one?

Question, most moderately modern motherboards come with a sound chip on board (and mainly 'realtek' from what I've seen), does an extra sound card really differ in quality so much ?

And Don, hope you get it sorted out.

Howdy and thanks all. Okay, took the box over to the Puter Dr. and dropped it off. Bought a new router and once again the home network is back and everyone (meaning Vicki) can get back online. She was stewing the last couple of days with no net service. Going to try to go live this coming week using my laptop and hope that works out till the big box gets back home. So ... after a fashion we be back in biz.
