I believe it was Jeff Ritzmann who once pointed out that an inordinate number of Paranormal enthusiasts...and Paracast listeners...evince a very high degree of participation and interest in the graphic arts. From my own experiences, I believe he's absolutely right.
So why not have an online Paracast art gallery of works by those who like to dabble in all the graphic mediums? While paranormal themes would naturally be the most appropriate, that shouldn't be an absolute requirement. Any subject matter will do, just as long as it's original and offers grist for thought. The same holds true for execution...digital 2D/3Dworks are great, but scans of traditional two dimensional media should be just as welcome.
If the moderators have no objections, I think this would be a fascinating addition to the site. Photobucket offers free image hosting, and could provide storage that wouldn't gobble up precious server resources. There are also a number of other sites that offer similar free services.
I suppose there would have to be some basic ground rules, like no graphic sexual displays of buck nekkid alien females who look like Jessica Alba seducing you, but I guess I can live with that.
If I have too.
Damn.
Anyway, I hope enough Paracasters find this a worthy enough notion to participate.

Crap. No graphic sexual stuff? Lost my vote.

Nah, I don't object, but neither am I interested in it. Good luck and have fun for those that are though. And I mean that sincerely. I might peak in, if it happens. But like, shouldn't David or Jeff win? Might be like having a Who's the biggest ass hat contest, and inviting me. What's the point? All else will fail.

Thanks for the suggestion. I need to look for ways to implement this sort of thing in a reasonable fashion. PHP and Web programmers are invited to advise. :D

I've been painting acrylic portraits. Haven't done anything of a paranormal bent yet...would love to contribute.

After having a look at your gallery, I disagree. There were some very nice sci-fi renders, which isn't an easy task to accomplish since you seem to be using Poser or Daz Studio. The Firefly engine isn't too bad in my humble opinion, but from what little experience I've had it seems to be buggy and somewhat unpredictable. Setting up the illumination and what passes for atmospherics in Poser is a crap shoot; you never know what you'll get. I just purchased Poser Pro and things are no better there in spite of all the hype.
And Daz is...well... Daz. Even with all the available commercial plugins, it still strikes me as being a bit wanky.
I much prefer Carrera, Cinema 4D or 3D Studio Max for rendering, but that's just a personal call.
Anyway, I like your work.

I've got a version of Poser, and Bryce, but the only 3D program I incorporate into my workflow is Sketchup, which I've modded out with a crapload of plugins and Perl scripts. I still draw and ink everything by hand, although I do use PS CS3 for most of my coloring/digital painting work. Watercolor is my favorite analog medium, although I occassionaly use acrylics too.

If anyone wants to look at some of my stuff, you can see it at http://www.scottstoryillustrator.com/. The digital portfolio probably shows me off at my best, or the ink portfolio. Most of it is not paranormal related, so don't go there if you are expecting to see an extension of my post history from here.

Scott, had a gander and really enjoyed your galleries.
I love pen and ink; it was the first medium I worked in. Like most people I started with Speedballs and Crowquills, then eventually grew to appreciate the control and precision of Rapidographs, but the finer points sure were a pain in the butt to keep clean so they wouldn't plug solid. For hand coloring I preferred Doc Martins' rather than acrylics or pan watercolors. Some of your techniques bring back fond memories.
Excellent craftsmanship....well done.

..Well, thank you Mogwa. Ironically, this morning not long after I posted that, I submitted a few of my pics to Palladium Books for their upcoming Rifter Swimsuit issue; I used said submission as an excuse to call them and check on the status of my previous writing submission.

..The writing submission has been misplaced but they liked the pics, so with a some tweaking tonight, I'll be fixing them and they'll probably be published next month...

I think this is mostly because of an artistically-individual's sense of gestalt perception.

As a mentor of mine once said, genius is a matter of observation above all. Art requires an intuitive perception over a strictly empirical one.

Mike, I'd have to say that if people are buying pieces of art done by Dogs, Cats, Primates and Elephants or whatever I'm certain your skills are far, far superior! :D
I've heard that those so called "works of art" go for mega bucks! That's crazy! Oh wait maybe it's the buyers that are the crazy ones! Or both! Ha-Ha!

Over at Gene's Tech Night Owl Live's forums I suggested they have the creators of David's two favorite pieces of software he calls his secret weapons! :D GroBoto and Studio Artist. Here's a link where I started a thread there to see if Gene can get the programers of this kick arse software on The Tech Night Owl Live one day soon!

I'm posting the Studio Artist poll and question in a few. :) Personally, I'd love to have Studio Artist but it's out of my league on the software "toy budget" of mine. :( However, I did get GroBoto and I can't even begin to explain it but w0w! :D Worth a look if you've got time. I did get ArtRage 2.5 since it's easily in my software toy budget and it's worth a look too since it's ridiculously low priced. How much? Only $25 clams! Not bad but obviously not a professional tool. http://ambientdesign.com/artrage.html

I'd vote "YES" to the Art Section that would be really cool! I know both Dave and Jeff are very busy but it'd be nice if they wouldn't mind critiquing our work or possibly having a little friendly competition. :D Have the Paracast Trinity of Gene, David and Jeff vote on the best of the best or maybe not. :D

Mike,
I'm posting the Studio Artist poll with a guest suggestion for John Dalton the founder of Synthetik Software, today at The Tech Night Owl Live Forums. :) When I have that one up please feel free to chime in and join us over there to for some tech talk. :D I'll post a link here too, later today.
I might post another poll over there too and ask Gene if we could have a "David Biedny Zone" forum there for everyone to drop in and ask David questions and such. I know David is busy but maybe he can stop in on occasion at the DBZone. FTW, is the DBZone? For those that are unaware, it's David's special segment of the Tech Night Owl Live to talk about something specific mostly and on many occasions lots of other non paranormal things for a change. Ha-Ha! :D Notice: I did not use DBZ since it's NOT to be confused with Dragon Ball Z! LOL :D

Whomever is interested I've posted a poll for a guest request on The Tech Night Owl Live to have David's secret weapon#2 Studio Artists founder as a special guest. I'm also hoping that Gene can make room there for a David Biedny Zone. :D
Here's the link to view the post and please consider joining the Tech Night Owl Live forums, if you haven't already, it's fast and virtually pain free! :D
