Here's the first trailer for James Gunn's friendlier (sort of) approach to Superman:

I hope you are correct Gene. I massive Superman fan and for me no one has ever come close to Christopher Reeve. So I saw it — with the senior discount — at the local AMC. Been over 10 years since I visited a multiplex and this one had reclining seats.
Sound was terrific. A large screen but not IMAX.
And the hype is real. This is one terrific comic book movie and all the main actors are great. For those who think Christopher Reeve was the one to beat, David Corenswet, also a Juilliard graduate, may be the best yet. Bradley Cooper has a brief cameo as Jor-El, Superman's dad, but his image of his son's mission is quite a twist.
Yes I know it could be OTT but the Christopher Reeve portrayal reminded me so much of the Superman comics I grew up with.I thought some performances were overdone. Reeve's Clark Kent was just too goofy., although his Superman was right on the mark. Gene Hackman's reading of being the "world's greatest criminal mind" was way over-the-top. Almost sarcastic! It was too comic-booky.
Strange thing that two dead Superman actors both with similar names. The portrayal is also a matter of the choice of the director as to which performances he wants and accepts. The 2025 Superman is less sure of himself, and it's early in the game for his super heroics. It's also based on comics, supposedly "All-Star Superman," although changes have been made. With so many revisions over the years, all sorts of versions of Superman have appeared.
The Superman I grew up with was George Reeves by the way. He was OK as Superman, but a little stilted. His Clark Kent was more personable, but hardly mild mannered. He didn't have that much range as an actor.
Agh I didn't know that. Every day is a school day and you learn a lot in the Paracast forums school.Except that George Reeves' birth name was George Keefer Brewer.
Christopher Reeve was a real name, minus his middle name: Christopher D'Olier Reeve.
