I'll stick with why? Personally, I've hiked in the desert (mostly the Sonoran) and mountainous areas (e.g. Denali, AK) where I've actually encountered both grizzlybear and wolves, and I never needed a gun. I did carry a pepper-spray in AK, but never had to use it.
Another thing, should one ever encounter something not of this material world, do you think a gun would work? Or just piss it off?
When you say,"encountered" do you mean face to face? Close enough to make you poop your pants? Or are we talking from some distance away?
I'll ask again....if you are going into an area that is known to have strangeness(in addition to human or animals) why would you not be armed?
As for a gun working against this something or merely pissing it off....guess we wont know, since no one ever feels the need for protection when walking into a dangerous scenario. For all we know, these other worldly beings might be allergic to lead.

Here's the video and the spooky orbs:

So, I was wondering if the whole story is built on Stan Lee's 'evidence' or that came after sightings by e.g. Ryan here?

Believe-it-or-not, it did happen. They condensed the ten or 12 minutes into a minute or so, and made a big deal out of a couple of words, etc but I was there and I heard the weird mechanical voice coming through both car's radios. I've never heard anything like that before. Go figure... .
That was really spooky!
Yea, when I heard the story about robot voices that's what popped into my head, they possibly have buried loudspeakers that can transmit audio when it senses movement. Several public art installations use such technology, it has existed for years.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would place good money that the voices heard over the radio were from ranch security. If so, they have some pretty sophisticated and powerful communication gear there. It makes sense that they would if they are trying to contact whatever is behind the activity there. They may be trying to listen and or broadcast through a portal when they open for example. This may be what is happening on the "other side" as well. Just speculating.

I got two new questions for Ryan,
1) The loud robotic Voice in the hills, can you replicate the voice at all? can you guesstimate the language or the sound of it, I'm interested if its Latin-ish or Sumerian (something ancient).
2) Have you heard of Dudley Town in CT?, love to compare skinwalker and DudleyTown, both sound very similar in their enviroments, very well and scarishly guarded. The "dark path entry" association owns Dudley town, and its supposed to be full of odd activity.

It would seem to me that orbs and such that emit or reflect light onto someone's retinas would be seen regardless of their state of paranormal belief. I think some things might be ignored by some people who just aren't as aware of their surroundings as others or by people who simply believe them to be unremarkable or routine, but I still think they would see them.

..Anyone who knows me is surprised when I take my digital recorder from my pocket and strap it to my head with a makeshift head strap. I hit record with the odd contraption almost glued to forehead and pointing up, constantly recording everything. the problem I've had is that in the past 2 years (time I started this new technique) I really have not had much bizarre audio to record. The majority of dramatic events happened around 2007-2008. ...
Alright, thanks for clearing that up.
In the interview you said that, while it is downplayed by the ranch owner and others, things are still happening as before. But you stopped experiencing voices then? Have they been replaced by other phenomena, or has activity actually ceased to some degree?
ryan
..
..Stealth is key to both capture the phenomena ...
So, it's your impression that these phenomena are shy of humans, or shy of noise and ruckus? What you described concerning the lights and the wolf doesn't sound like the phenomena are shy of contact?
ryan
I think that is an excellent excellent question, one in which a neuroscientist or quantum theorist might better answer. In my opinion the possibility of its existence must be in your immediate consciousness (and/or subconsciousness) to have an experience. Skeptic or believer is meaningless, you just need to be aware of the possibility of their presence and they become known to the observer. I'm not qualified to answer this question, but in my opinion someone unaware of the orbs would likely see nothing. Thus what role is the interrelationship between the observer, human consciousness, and the phenomena? (if one even exists....)
Ok, this is interesting, because it could explain why paranormally ignorant hikers and such, don't feel any dark presence, or don't see the phenomena.
If the phenomena respond to the human consciousness, do you think that orbs and so forth are actually visible to others, who are not conscious of the possibility of strange encounters? Do you think that the expressions of the phenomena are more of an impression in the observer?
ryan
I think that is an excellent excellent question, one in which a neuroscientist or quantum theorist might better answer...
Thanks, yea, I can follow the neuroscientist idea, but I have a harder time going with the quantum theory. Are you aware that quantum physics work on the particle level only? In other words, I don't think you will find support for your notion in actual quantum mechanics, it sounds like your explanation refers to what one might call, in a derrogative sense, quantum mysticism.

Finally, I'm also curious about the Black Forest ranch: Have you been there yourself and witnessed any phenomena, or do you rely on other witnesses, videos and such?
Thanks for your replies!

In reference to: “has the area ever been tested for hallucinogenic substances say in water, food, or air particulate?”
To quote: “Hypotheses”, under the heading “Delusions” pg.213 of “Hunt for the Skinwalker”
“We also looked at a number of other possible environmental variables. Such as the possibility of ingested hallucinogens. But we found no correlation with local drinking water. Since in most cases NIDS researchers consumed only bottled water. A close study of the flora on the property also failed to reveal an abundance of plants known to contain psychoactive substances. In the event that hallucinogens may have been windborne, we examined local wind direction data for a period of ten years and found no correlation with the timing of reports of anomalous events at the ranch.”
“Finally, we mapped magnetic field anomalies, using published aeromagnetic surveys as well as taking dozens of field measurements of magnetic field flux on the ranch ourselves…, not to mention gravitational and other incongruities around the Uinta Basin…, but all these efforts failed to correlate with the events observed on the ranch.”

This was a great show with everything you could ask for from an H.P. Lovecraft story, so it's extra wildly rare to have it being described as reality. As a show it was especially strong because one Chris O'Brien has intimate knowledge of The Ranch. This made for some good flow and all the various familiar and unheard of creatures, anomalous objects, events all got some airtime. Was the smoking dogman there though - i feel like i missed that? This show is a great companion episode to the previous one that focussed on The Ranch. t
The best sequence was the explanation of this other reality "phasing" into ours and the difficulty of this other alien intelligence to be able to negotiate this thin walled geographic region.
i bet that in the future, when we all have apps to detect ultraterestrials on our invisible phone technology we will find out that those areas are actually being worn thin by the ultraterestrial populae who are polluting our shared quantum space via their teleporting technology. Anyways, i was also thoroughly impressed by the one death report that included the accidental portal opening, so creatures with the delirious , gelatinous body of Nyarlathotep can fall out of the sky poised to wreak death. Really, what more can you ask for?
Aftere I finished listening the first question I was going to ask was Jimi H's first one. Thanks for answering both of his first two and taking on the third right after. I'm also a huge Edward Abbey fan and have difficulty in understanding how this phenomenon is not more universal to human perception given that it is able to be recorded on video as described by Knapp, your own video etc.. Just how far away is The Ranch from this place Jimi H. mentions?
Earlier in the show I think Gene brought up this idea that perhaps we will this stuff and that we see what we want to see, and perhaps fear shared by a crowd, or individual believers is much more likely to prompt the shared delusion, then communicat to others who in return remagnify the narrative - just a thought. But it is an interesting aspect of various paranormal phenomenon that the perceptions of the a multiple witness event can produce dramatically conflciting reports. This suggest that there is some kind of interplay between the perceived and the stimulus. But there's probably as many paranormal witnesses that will say they were non-believers before the event as those who were believers. So this doesn't quite ring true. Any more thoughts on this idea that the viewer is responsible in some way for what they see?
I'm extremely fascinated by the transformational, disappearing wolf that you encountered. That was just an escellent sequence, btw. Did both you and the other witness agree in your reports? Could you tell that this wolf was real, and not a hologram or something? Could you smell it b/c a wolf that close is going to really smell, or did it make any sounds at all i.e. when walking away? Have you ever had a contradicting set of witness reports experienced at The Ranch? And not to be insulting, but do you take hallucinogenic substances while at the ranch - i know, a silly question, but that's what these stories sound like to me - bad acid trips! A more serious question: has the area ever been tested for hallucinogenic substances say in water, food, or air particulate?

My wife and I had several experiences over the last two years that were similar to your experience with the black wolf. The biggest differences being the location and the color of the animal. Did you feel a great sense of fear? Or was it wonder? I know you said you wanted to kick the wolf. I'll also mention that the wolf is looked at as a majestic teacher and a source of sacred wisdom in certain Native American cultures and isnt necessarily a negative omen or presence. In our case my wife and i witnessed a white wolf immediately after witnessing a seemingly intelligent orange orb at low altitude.

- Ryan, you say you're a journalist, don't you bring a small pocket recorder to record these sounds of men having conversations over your head speaking in weird tongues? And the robot-voices and so forth? Do you dictate notes?
- What about a small camera, do you keep that handy? If nothing else to see what happens when you flash an orb, or a werewolf?
- About Hell's Hole, Chris and Ryan: Is that Hell's Hole by Aravaipa? If so, it seems that a lot of folks enjoy the place for a hike, seemingly undisturbed by strange creatures in their tents at night:
My dear author Edward Abbey wrote about the place in loving terms, and never mentioned being spooked by anything more strange than a mountain lion. Do regular hikers see stuff like orbs and feel an intimidating prescence and so forth, or does that stuff mostly happen if you believe in it?

we couldn't, the balls of light landing on the ridgeline was witnessed by the guards below who began hiking towards us. We immediately ran so as not to be arrested after the wolf/porcupine incident.
*on a unusual side note the other researcher I was with claims he saw a alien (with a strange long neck) and NOT a guard climbing the ridge. I was too busy running and not looking back and to me it sounded like the guards. I overheard what sounded like walkie talkie chatter or something similar as it closed in. Having a encounter with the paranormal is one thing, having an encounter is the guards is a very very bad day. Its like meeting the Camo Dudes on the wrong side of Area 51's fence.

Enjoyed the interview Ryan and agree with your interpretation on what mostly likely explains the high strangeness experienced on the ranch. Carl Sagan did a good job explaining how a being from the third dimension would appear to a flatland creature in his brilliant Cosmos show – including disembodied voices:
I think we just don’t have the scientific knowledge to explain and predict it right now. No doubt it will be more complex that we ever imagined.
Chris – from memory on a previous Paracast you mentioned that some large beings with beards wearing robes where observed on or near the ranch. Are you able to provide any more info on this experience? Ryan, have you heard of this encounter?
Good luck with the book.

The situation with the "voices" has always made me think this was a military operation. What a fantastic testing ground this would be and whatever the tech, no one is even able to study it because it pops in and out of the observable world. The fact that more animals than people have been directly harmed and that nothing can be physically grabbed and taken to test just screamed black operation.
I know that Gene and Chris tend to think that humans are too incompetent to come up with these types of things but I don't know about that. I wonder how many scientific endeavors have been halted due to a lack of funding. Imagine being a scientist and told "do whatever you want and money is no object

That is the truth. But obviously that is not possible and that is my concern. I cannot investigate for myself. Jist of it goes was that after me and another researcher had our encounter with the orbs of light, and then the wolf emerged, after the wolf disappeared, a porcupine approached us, stood upright on its two stubby legs and was holding something in its paw. Vallee in an interview, perhaps it was the Paracast, spoke about trying to create his own approach to interrupting the control system that involved some type of "technique" to try to solicit the UFO at his own US based ranch house. He tried repeatedly - no results, at least none of any significance that he was going to disclose. Vallee also hung out with the hip LaVey crowd as well back in the day. Voices of the Voiceless
Well i stumbled upon the skinwalker young back in 95ish, I was 7 in school and in the library had this book called mysteries of the unknown? I think thats what it was called. Not to mention local stories of bigfoot sighting and ufos, as well as other things.
I remembered legends of old with creatures of such taking children away which is in many lores, not so different with bigfoot back in the day.
I always asked the question of if any people went missing from entitys of the unknown more then we often think.
But to find out such things are covered up for reasons, probably to keep us paying taxes, then worry about monsters in the woods.
Keep us a sleep with no nightmares to wake us lol.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Voices of the Voiceless
I remember a report on the last show with Ryan on, talked about two people appearent suicide, Clothes were taken off, shoes off, and jump to there deaths.
I know it aint the show to talk about bigfoot and missing people 411, kinda reminds me of those criteria. Clothes off, shoes, etc.
anyways my question is this, the skinwalker ranch entity or these creatures have something to do with such things as missing people, not all missing people but that small percentage that goes missing in that criteria?
And to top off with i remember listening to Rosemary Gialy??? Talking about Djinn, how they love areas of the planet or even a forestriel area, an entity that gets agressive when its tree is knocked down by people, anyways all this stuff about Djinn, Bigfoot, Ufos and portals have something to do with each other.
Im from the yukon so the bigfoot sightings along with the odd reports of ufos seen with bigfoot are reported.
Along with many other stuff, little people, the devil at 98.
Anyways hello paracast.

Ryan,
Please scratch any of these that were already part of the show. We've heard a lot about the Ranch over the years on the Paracast so it's starting to feel like the Bermuda Triangle, more mythological than factual, or even tangible, mostly beyond belief.
What truth is there to the endless variety of paranormal phenomenon that is being reported? The whole history sounds more like constructed scenes from Welcome to Nightvale than anything real. The narrative thus far is unique in paranormal history with its incredible combination of every imaginable voice, monster, light source, UFO, cattle stripping invisible entities etc.- you name it Skinwalker's got it. What do you feel this is all about or are the stories more myth than substance?
What's the best scientific results you can point to that have some kind of measurable, possibly comprehendible, data associated with it that you are aware of?
There's a lot of quantum guesswork and invention lately about the source of paranormal activity. What's your current working theory about what's going on with phenomenon such as those reported at Skinwalker and would you describe it as more hostile, indifferent or friendly?

my father recently traced my heritage. My great great grandmother was 100% native. (eastern US tribe...cant remember name...it had a uncommon tribal name).
What is a celtic origin? My mothers side has roots in Hungary/Slovakia from what was called Bohemia. The other side is from Ireland.
I grew up Lutheran and went to Lutheran preschool and middle school. I unfortunately am not practicing anymore and consider myself more spiritual than true practicing Lutheran (I have a few problems with subscribing to any one religion). My grandmother (the one with partial native blood) had a "spirit guide" she said a indian who would visit her and show her ominious visions of the future....typically horrible events. She asked it to leave her alone, and I guess it did before she died. On a interesting note when she died her last words where "its all real, everything in the bible, its all real". (I wonder if my father made up the bible part... but he was amazed by her final words about what she was seeing moments before death)

On your site you published a story that I pieced together from a musician's message board (phantasy tour). Did you ever get a chance to speak with the person who posted the story? I have their contact info if you are interested. PM me if you don't already have his email.
I suppose it could be some creative writing or he could have spent sometime on the ranch. I had sent the original posts to Chris O'Brien and Jeff Ritzmann a few years ago, whatever the case it would be awesome to hear firsthand.
Here's the link to the story on your site:

Did you discuss Colm Kelleher ? If not, when is the last time that you have heard anything of him in relation to the zoo?
