RIP: Paul Hellyer

We all know the weaknesses in Hellyer's approach to ufology, but I always got the impression that he had a genuine and constructive interest in the subject, and so far as I'm concerned, that makes him noteworthy. We've lost a lot of notables to the sands of time. Bassett has a page dedicated to this here . . .

Most of us Canadians saw Hellyer as a bit of a goof.
Only the UFO folks held him in high esteem.

His only political accomplishment was a huge blunder .
He forced the amalgamation of the Canadian air force , army , and navy.

That amounts to the same thing as saying a horse , a cow , and a sheep are one entity named livestock.

.

Not all UFO folks held him in high esteem. His presence severely hurt the credibility of Bassett's Citizen Hearing on Disclosure, which otherwise was a mostly decent presentation even if it didn't really mimic a real Congressional hearing.

May his family be comforted in this time of their loss.

Mr. Hellyer's statements about extraterrestrials were misguided. We should not trust offers of technology from those here now. Our allies would not do so.
