If you have someone on your show making claims based on thermal images, please ask them if they have ANY certification.

These Paranormal/UFO shows on TV have everyone and their brother running around with FLIR Thermography cameras and it is bugging the crap out of me.

These cameras are cool in the gee-whiz way but when you get down to brass tacks there are many ways to get bogus readings or images based on camera settings, environmental conditions, and the limitations of the camera's sensor.

Edit: Just after I wrote this I heard the Arkansas guy on your 12/2/07 show mention training...at least he realizes it's needed.

I's neat stuff...I'm a level I thermographer. I've used FLIR cameras for about 8 years...never went and got my Level II certification.

The level of expertise required to use these cameras depends on the application (i.e., the question you are trying to answer). These ghost hunters are using them as if they are point-and-shoot comsumer electronics. There are lots of ways to go wrong with that sort of passive use. To get any useful information the thermographer really needs to be engaged with the ambient conditions, surface types being scanned, camera settings, etc.
