BBC News - MI6 death: Gareth Williams 'probably' killed unlawfully

Anyone ever hear of a post-mortem hearing like this? Messed up in so many ways.
How can you tell a dead dudes parents that their son was found bound naked in a locked bag kinda certainly, maybe killed suspiciously but we have no proof or evidence but there is some proof sort of.

The whole thing with the websites and sexual proclavities (which he would have been screened for if true anyway) smacks of a botched smear and false leads which the new field spooks arent very good at doing;
The Insider - UK regime admits child porn claims against 'terror suspect' were false

Then the bstards advertise the victim's job throughout this whole process like some fun game propaganda side show;
Can you crack it - behind the code

ok.. so the last ones a stretch but say there isnt some weird stuff going on. The other possibilities are that someone was able to kill an M16 opporative loaned to another agency in pretty much broad daylight and get away with it, an officer whose highly sort after skills made him a potential threat and a high level asset who wasnt monitored or checked on.

This guy was on loan from GCHQ. I worked their myself and I had to get the exact same background checks as he did. If it was not public knowledge and he chose to withhold such a thing from his clearance interviewer, there isn't much anyone can do.
If he had withheld information about what he got up to sexually but had lived through this event he might well have been sacked for failing to disclose aspects of his private life. The only way to fail a 'Developed Vetting (DV)' interview is to lie. Telling pretty much anything, as long as it's the truth, you cannot be turned down.

Personally, and I know the man's family disagree with this point of view, but I believe the man may indeed have been a cross-dresser. There is a possibility he may have been involved in some non-standard sex (!) or suchlike. It does look like someone else was involved and if I am any amatuer shrink (!) the crime scene smacked of jealousy?

There was something like £20,000 pounds of women's clothes and shoes despite the fact he had no girlfriend or wife. These clothes were explained away as 'gifts for female friends'.
And how many guys working for the government do you know who can afford to spend £20,000 on presents for women they aren't even dating.
I know he was a mathematician working in cryptography - very demanding work only for the best of maths minds but trust me, this guy did not earn a lot of money - this is the public sector and few people work there to get rich.
So, £20,000 of women's clothing is a ridiculous amount to even suggest a 'straight' single man 'might' have as 'possible presents'! I mean, come on! That's one of the most ridiculous suggestions ever.

But, I do sympathise with the man's family and I understand how natural to want to downplay any sordid aspect to a death in the family. I lost a brother so I know personally what this family is going through. I imagine I downplayed aspects of my own brother's death.

we could speculate all kinds of stuff. fact of the inquest is; "something dodgy happened about his death. could be murder. not sure no evidence". it seems incredible that an asset can be smeared and treated like this let alone a human being.

He new the risks when entering the cloudy world of espionage (James Bond) its the same as any soldier. Surely the playground he was in would of raised the red flag ? Sorry to hear goggy and all the best man.

That was my point earlier though, if something was not known to family or friends and he failed to mention it at the security interviews there is little anyone can do to forsee such a thing.
If he did have a hidden aspect to his life he would have been made aware that it would never leave the interview - they tell you it's ok if you like pink dresses of a weekend, as long as you declare it for security , so it cannot be used as blackmail.

For instance, I had to tell the UK DVA (Defence Vetting Agency) I had been given community service back in the day for possession!:rolleyes:.

Point is, everyone has parts of their life they may rather forget but all you need do is be open. I suppose in itself that is a test of your honesty?

So I'd put money on Gareth having a really, really secret part of his life he had no intention of declaring. I can promise you someone's head rolled for doing shit background checks, even if they actually did a good job. Someone always gets the blame.
