Mendela Effect w/ Project UFO (Bluebook) TV Show....remember?

Creepy Green Light

Paranormal Adept
One long standing internet argument I've seen over the years is with the TV show Project UFO. I will personally say, that I 1000% remember it being called "Project Blue Book" (in New Jersey). There are 100's & 100's of messages from people in other parts of the country that swear on their life it was also called that. But a bunch of other people say that "we are just remembering it wrong". There are too many people claiming it was "Bluebook" to be remembering it wrong. I can see if 1 or 2 people thought that - but not this many people.

What do you remember it as?

What gets me about this show is that I don't remember it at all from back when it was airing, and I would have known about it because I've always been into ufos. I only ran across it by chance one day while looking at YouTube videos, and those say Project U.F.O.I've often wondered how I could have missed knowing about that series.

Oh man, back when I was a kid - I'd get the shivers knowing it was coming on in a few minutes. I didn't know it at the time, but a lot of their episodes are based on real cases. One in particular is the Cisco Grove case (which is a ridiculous, bogus case - but made for a great story nonetheless :)

In fact, when I started to look up "Project Bluebook TV episodes" I stumbled upon "Project UFO". I thought to myself - "These guys have a lot of nerve ripping off Project Bluebook" - but come to find out, the show is one in the same.

I think the name was country/region specific:

Also Known As (AKA)
Spain Proyecto UFO: Investigación OVNI
USA (alternative title) Project Blue Book
USA (alternative spelling) Project UFO

((source)): Project U.F.O. (TV Series 1978–1979) - Release Info - IMDb
I believe that as well. The problem is, with everything & anything being on the internet - nobody can find any evidence of an episode or intro that shows it as "Project Bluebook". The naysayers say that something would have surfaced by now as visual evidence to support the PB name.

I can't find a definite answer, but I suspect that Blue book may have been a 'working' title.

I did however find out that one of the writers was a guy named Harold Jack Bloom, who wrote for some other brilliant shows and films like:

Sherlock Holmes, James Bond, The man from UNCLE and the Time tunnel!

I know that they sometimes change the name of things depending on the country, for example when I was small, I used to like teenage mutant 'hero' turtles, and then I found out that in the US they were called 'Ninja' turtles...
Also they sometimes have change song lyrics because of our strange advertising laws, so for instance in the Kinks song 'Lola' they had to change the line "drink champagne and it tastes just like coca cola" to "cherry cola".

So wait, was it Jack Webb or Harold Jack Bloom? Or both? Jack Webb I think did Dragnet/Adam 12 and a bunch of others.

"So wait, was it Jack Webb or Harold Jack Bloom? Or both? Jack Webb I think did Dragnet/Adam 12 and a bunch of others."

My understanding is that Harold Jack Bloom is credited as the 'creator' of Project UFO and that Jack Webb is listed as a 'Director'.
It seems that they often worked together because there are some of the same shows listed on both of their bios.

I believe that like Wikipedia, IMDB is compiled by 'amateurs' so I would be a bit cautious about taking anything written there as 'gospel'.

There are people who specialise in this sort of thing, and maybe someone who even owns/has seen an original script from the show, or even some marketing stuff (that might solve the name mystery).

The production company was called mark seven limited* and I believe the original network that showed it was NBC, so you would need to talk to an archivist/historian who knows about one of those two, or preferably both.

For some reason I think that the 'pilot' episode may have been called project bluebook and was changed to project UFO because not everyone would get the reference? but that is just pure speculation.
It was definitely about bluebook cases regardless of its 'title'.

I remember watching it, and I had it in my mind as something like "Blue Book" but I was pretty young. I can see it being "Project UFO," and I've watched some episodes since.

One, in particular, fascinated me. It's of a UFO landing, with a helmeted figure coming down and speaking to someone. I thought it was so amazing. I finally found that episode, and it was just about the worst thing ever. Stupid plot, and even worse effects - and I'm a classic doctor who fan who actually likes bad effects.
