Let's hope they get it right. Though unrelated, it seems predictions for fusion as a viable energy source follow patterns similar to those of UFO disclosure. Some piece of news gets us all excited, then we forget. Time passes. Repeat.

OTOH, we already have free nuclear fusion on a scale we can't even dream of replicating, it's called the Sun (the star, not the paper). Solar cells efficiency has improved and, perhaps, it will improve to such a point it will make fusion unnecessary. Who knows.
