i was looking at a "corrected" world map at the local office supply store, it looks more or less the same as a standard world map but all the words are upside down, or rather the map shows australia "on top" and everyone else down under

Sometimes the field completely flips. The north and the south poles swap places. Such reversals, recorded in the magnetism of ancient rocks, are unpredictable. They come at irregular intervals averaging about 300,000 years; the last one was 780,000 years ago. Are we overdue for another? No one knows.

wouldnt it be funny if thousands of years from now archeoligists find these maps and use them as "proof" that we lived during a period of reversal

Ha I like those maps, because it really points out the arbitrary information on our current maps. Build a compass with the opposite pole attached to the center, and all of a sudden south is now north.

i sometimes wonder if the impending pole reversal is the "disaster" theme that seems to feature in some abduction scenarios.
it makes sense that if our own science tells us that its happening and due to happen again, that aliens might draw the same conculsions from the data.

Velikofsky used it as a basis for his theorys of a series of earthly catastrophys , and would also give the deep underground military base theorys some basis.

we know from the magma flows on the ocean floors that the poles swap places every so many thousand years or so

these events could explain why so many cultures have a flood story

and if it were about to happen again, if the govt had data that predicts this event will be sooner rather than later it makes sense to keep the data secret and start building DUMBs like theres no tomorrow.........

ummm from my school boy book on geology ... isn't that "magnetic" poles rather than actual physical poles ???

Oh and a similar scenario to what you're talking about is, I think, at the heart of The Horizon Project:

http://www.thehorizonproject.com

which I feel is rather fear-mongering-y, and rather depressing really ... but still you can buy the DVD for an all new low price of ... :p

yes thank you, i did mean the magnetic poles

magneticstripes.gif

the data seems to indicate the "magnetic" poles swap polarity on a regular basis, and i dont know if as a result the earth suffers catastrophic floods etc , but it certainly could explain the "flood" storys found in many cultures , and even the atlantis story.

thanks for your link i hadnt seen that site
