Face on Mars? How About the Bear on Mars?

Those little serrations within the crack or ditch around the outside of the "bear's" head are interesting.

Hummm.... beary inderesding :)

Likely place for organics I'd look for on Mars would be underground caves near equator that are protected from radiation.
Cenote style.... or some deep lake hidden under the ice sheets at the poles. If a civilization needed to survive on Mars after a calamity they'd likely resort to a strategy similar to Derinkuyu.

Once you develop and master 'fusion' as an energy source (artificial sun) .... you've removed many barriers that would allow a civilization to continue evolving underground (if the surface became toxic).... protected from damaging radiation, incoming comets and asteroids. You could prepare and live in huge caverns where the ceiling would replicate the exterior environment ;) with an artificial light source fined tuned to perfectly support agriculture and other human requirements (circadian rhythm)

.... well it's an acceptable solution until the next technological step that brings us to closer to a type 1 civilization where you have full control over planetary dynamics ;)

Maybe humans come from Mars... lived underground for millennia until it was decided to migrate to earth when the oxygen level became compatible with our Martian lungs... (too bad we had to eliminate those pesky dinosaurs lol)

The energy source would be internal planetary heat. The sun is at best irrelevant.

No Martian civilization was ever possible. Essentially present conditions have persisted since the end of the Noachian.

Any civilization or race incapable of living on the surface would be very unlikely to develop space travel.

it’s a thought experiment.

1. evolves on surface
2. reaches high tech stage
3. faces catastrophic challenges on surface
4. finds a solution with artificial subterranean environment

can you explain why it’s a dead end from point 4 ?

Brinsley Le Poer Trench

The unsophisticated laughing track in the background is priceless. But in 2023 (our post-tictac world) it would probably be a nervous laugh instead :)

Brinsley was dead serious... but his presentation style catastrophic lol. He probably deeply regretted that interview ;)
