In the wake of the purchase of Skype by Microsoft a while back, it appears to have become easier for the authorities to tap your calls, video chats, and instant messages.

I keep wondering how much freedom we'll be willing to sacrifice, all for the illusion of "safety".

Apparently there is no limit. Any perceived threat, no matter how minuscule or ridiculous, is made worthy of every sacrifice to freedom. The pretense will be that this will allow Al Qaeda operatives to be caught but the reality is that it will be used to further the drug "wars", harass dissidents and keep a mostly law-abiding populace in its place.

Yep, BIG brother is real and the surveillance is illegal but nobody cares because they think they are being kept safe. What a joke. Actually I don't think it matters wether we care or not, there going to do it regardless, at our expense.

Welcome to 1984 everyone ... and here you were thinking it was just a fiction book... how wrong were you, for it was really a text book for those who looked hard enough.

With so much extra safety now days is it not strange that we all feel less secure?

How much is to much surveillance?

Its more than just this that is the problem people, it is all about control.

In New Zealand there is a saying "She'll be Right", which is a way of saying who cares it won't really affect me.

That is a big part of the problem.
