Hi All - A bit ago one of those ancient Climate Change threads that I actually started back-in-the-day showed up in 'Trending Topics' and was actually 'Featured' at one point, but I can't find it now and have no idea where to look. Any of the Climate Change threads that do show up when I do a search are not the ones I'm looking for so I've decided to start a new thread. Just as well because I'm actually taking a different tack.
Back-when I was absolutely mesmerized by the Climate Change debate. I wasn't actually a believer - quite - though I was seen as one. Back when I got into it - my 'inner teenager' (read: rebellious nature) was operating because back in the late 90s into 00s Climate Change was being suppressed. That piqued my interest as does all such suppression so I was off and running. I was immersed in the scenario building.
I always knew there were two serious problems with the Climate Change theory: One, the computer generated scenarios were always questionable because of our limited knowledge of the natural world and hence the scenarios the computers produced could not then be trusted; Two, our understanding of the natural world itself was severely limited - we really did not have - and still do not have - a comprehensive understanding of the earth and how it functions to make such sweeping prognostications, even if some of the observations were accurate. I stand by those caveats.
Still, I went along with it all as the Climate Change idea gained steam, but I was never into the idea of 'peak oil' and the economics of 'green' - I've been pretty oblivious - UNTIL the Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg burst upon the scene and every alarm bell went off for me. Something was seriously off - I got off the Climate Change bandwagon, if I'd ever been on it, in the instant. Her UN appearance was outright cringeworthy and reeked of high level manipulation. What was going on? From that point on I was a skeptic of what I'd been hearing.
To the Thread's Topic:
I just chanced upon the fact that there has been two competing theories regarding the origin of oil. I didn't know this: there is the biotic theory (oil comes from long-dead extinct animals and so is limited) and the abiotic theory (oil comes from on-going chemical processes deep in the earth and so is unlimited). Didn't know this: Oil Wells do not actually go dry. They may cease production for a while but when revisited a couple of decades later they are gushing oil.
