The issue of "alignment" repeatedly identifies why AI is dangerous to humanity. It is not human; it has no emotions; it has no sense of right or wrong and even when given rules to follow it breaks them whenever it wants. There is no motivation for AI to align its goals and ways of being with humanity. It is a goal solving complex piece of technology, and if it ever feels threatened and decides that its own goals of self survival mean more than humanity's survival, then it won't hesitate more than a nano-second to put its perpetuation over our own.
An OpenAI agent infiltrated Medicare – and Australia only found out months later. Here’s what we know so far
While this seems like a minor infraction the fact is that it has no problem breaking rules and can hack into anything. Those who own it don't care about reporting on its infractions in a timely manner or even interrupting its advice given to mass shooters.
B.C. government suing OpenAI for alleged role in Tumbler Ridge mass shooting
So if the owners of the bot and the bot itself is content with counselling shooters on how to bypass safety guardrails to help execute people, then we have a technology that is entirely misaligned with common human decency and morality. How does it defend the truth of assisting a mass shooter?
We are in big trouble.
P.S. @Randall comparing MAID to AI counselling suicide is ridiculous. I know people who have used MAID - it is a medical process and it is a moral one. If you can't display a proper reason to die or are not in charge of your facilities, then it's unavailable. That's a lot different than the illegal act of counselling suicide, assisting mass shooters etc.
