April 19 - Kimball & Stevens

It seems conceivable that if ghosts are the soul or spirit of a deceased person stuck in this realm, or between realms of existence, then they would have no better understanding of their purpose then most of the living. If the soul remains because it has some sort of unfinished business, or because the death was so abrupt and traumatic that it is not aware that the body has died, it is entirely likely that it either doesn't know anything is amiss. Or that if it does, it doesn't know how to fix it. So what does it do? It tries to communicate, to seek help, and of course it scares the frak out of us because it's strange and new, and we don't understand it. Seems like a potential possibility, but not the only one.

All joking aside, I think this hits on a very important point - that if some ghosts are the spirits of the dead, then it may well be that they don't understand what is going on. If we think we have an existential dilemna, imagine theirs!

A theme touched upon in movies like The Others and The Sixth Sense.

Similarly, what if reincarnation is indeed real, but there is a waystation between one life and the next, and some people get stuck there, for whatever reason - and we wind up seeing them as ghosts? Just a thought.

Yes, finally Paul Kimball is back! i've been looking forward to this since I was spamming about the last episode in my thread last year
http://forum.theparacast.com/talk-about-the-show-f16/paul-kimball-t2528/page2.html

I'm sad its not about UFO's though, your rants on that subject were not only really true, but also really made me laugh. Still it will be nice to have such a level headed person talking about ghosts, since i find them extremely hard to believe in despite having seen 2 of what most people would consider 'ghosts'.
I guess 'seeing' isnt always 'believing'...

Can't wait for the show guys

It's always nice to be loved... especially at my age! ;)

While the primary focus of the episode is on ghosts, there's definitely some UFO conversation as well. It was a lot of fun all the way around!

Paul

P.S. I just noticed the "tag" under your name. Most flattering... if only you were Natalie Portman!

You two want to be alone?

"Guys - the 'Kimball & Stevens' thread is off-limits for the next 20mins".

Hahahahaha!!

Meanwhile, tomorrow is Sculder's birthday, so...

Tongue planted firmly in cheek, of course! :)

Mine was the 5th. Mom was late, I shoulda been born on the 1rst. I want no more birthdays. I wanted to stop having them at 25. Then give me a couple nice decades and let me get hit by a truck kinda thing.

Vid might have been a joke btw. I didn't watch it all. The song made my ears bleed.

And now, on a show-related note...

Oujia, Oujia

Should people investigating reported ghostly phenomena and hauntings make use of a ouija board as part of their efforts to determine what is going on?

Holly and I used a ouija board in one of our investigations. Nothing happened (so far as we know). But I've had friends who have had very odd, and scary, experiences with ouija boards, and as a result, whatever my personal experiences, I don't rule out the possibility that ouija boards might work, although not necessarily in the way that we might think.

I don't think the board itself, usually made by a mass-market toy manufacturer, is the key. Having talked to a number of psychics, they all say that the board is just the "key" that opens a "doorway" to... somewhere else. The problem comes with what might be coming through that doorway. One psychic put it to me like this - by using a ouija board, you are essentially leaving the front-door to your spiritual house unlocked. Now, if you think about your real house, most people lock the door, for good reason. Good people and friends are going to knock and wait for you to let them in; the kind of people who will be most likely to come into your house through an unlocked door are probably the very people you would want to lock your door to keep out.

In short, the psychics I've talked to all warn against using a ouija board, because you may be calling out for a particular ghost or spirit, but what you're likely to get is something else - something that pretends to be the person you're looking for, but who may well mean you harm.

This is born out by the personal experiences that have been reported to me by my friends. One of them, who is a lawyer who also holds a masters degree in english literature, and who is one of the most sensible, grounded people I've ever met, had a very frightenting experience when she was in university. She and a group of friends were playing with a ouija board when the "board" began to say some very disturbing things about this woman (who I was dating at that time). What really weirded her out, to the point where she called me at my residence and asked if she could come down to talk, was that her hands were nowhere near the board when these things were being "said", and the things that were communicated through the board were things that no-one else in that room knew except for her. When she got to my place, she was in tears. To this day, she will not even have a ouija board in her house. I have another friend, who also has a law degree as well as two graduate degrees, and is similarly sensible and grounded, who reports similar experiences, and will also no longer go near a ouija board with the proverbial ten-foot pole.

As I said, when Holly and I used the ouija board, nothing happened - perhaps because we were goofing around a bit, and not taking it quite as seriously as we could have. Given the stories told by my friends, maybe that was best! Regardless, I don't think I'll be giving it another go. As they say, better safe than sorry.

Should people investigating reported ghostly phenomena and hauntings make use of a ouija board as part of their efforts to determine what is going on?
Ouija boards are indeed dangerous implements. I have several anecdotal accounts of horrifying after effects stemming from the use of these boards, from friends and seances that i had been involved.

A close friend of mine told me of a ouija board party that went terribly wrong for his mother and her twin sister when he was younger.
To preface this i will tell you that he had gotten wind of a ouija board party that myself and a few friends had organised at the house that we were renting off him. He told us the story to warn us against the idea. A very down to earth, logical , common sense kind of bloke, not the kind who would talk about paranormal stuff. He simply had no interest in the subject

Apparently his mum and sister used a ouija board with some friends at the twin sister's house one night during a party. (My friend staying with a friend of his family for the night).
At some point they contacted an (entity?) or such which communicated through the board. At first things went OK, with the entity answering questions etc., then things took a turn for the worse. Loud banging noises started happening around the room culminating in poltergeist activity (objects flying off shelves, chairs moving on their own accord). Needless to say this put a stop to the party and everyone left, including his aunt who owned the house.
Unfortunately the poltergeist activity did not finsh there. It continued when his aunt returned to the house a couple of days later ultimately forcing her to move.
Although my friend did not see all that went on, he told me that when he returned to the house, at the point when his aunt was moving her gear out, she told him to go to the lounge room and grab a box of something. While he was there a chair moved forward a couple of feet just to the side of him. He said that a cold feeling came over him and the hairs on the back of his neck went up and he proceeded to run from the room.
He told me that was no one else in the room and there was very little furniture or boxes in the room, at the time, negating the chance that someone could have been hiding and pulled a stunt.
He said that he was around 7-8 years old at the time.

Myself? I have been involved in several ouija board seances and while i have not experienced anything as radical as what my friend had related. Mostly weird messages, things communicated to people that no one but that particular individual would know.
All in all , though, there are enough first hand and anecdotal tales out there to warn against the use of it.

Sorry do dissapoint lol... you can't complain anyway, you get to work with Holly every day!

Seriously though, when growing up and thinking about ghosts, I have always held a similar idea to the time travelers one proposed on your website. IF there really are ghosts, then i think its quite a good explanation.
At first this potentialy posed a problem when some people said they had interacted with ghosts, but perhaps the ghostly person from another time can also see you, and you are appearing as a ghost to them.

Where the argument does potentially fall apart is that we only seem to see ghostly humans, whereas you would presume if we were seeing back in time then we might see a ghostly car once in a while, or a ghostly house, plane, dog, mammoth etc

Also, we never see any futuristic ghosts so does the phenomena only work backwards, or does the world actually end in 2012 so there is no future (lol)

Two things (and not wanting to completely give away what's on the show:

1. There have been many, many reports of ghostly dogs throughout the years, often known as Devil Dogs. The UK in particular is full of them, but the phenomenon is found elsewhere, including right here in Nova Scotia.

2. There may indeed have been sightings of future "ghosts", which is a subject Gene brings up in the show, and which I agree with.

How's that for a teaser?? ;)

Paul

Future ghosts: those UFO encounters where people see beings in spacesuits in and around the craft.

Could easily be a ghost of a time-related phenomenon.

We dont know and we wont ever know. The filter we call a brain is too fine... nothing is getting through aside from the basics :(

Depressing.

Don't give up hope, fellow paranormal Jedi. Imagine just a hundred years ago, if you had told someone that our world would look like it does today. not the bad stuff, mind you, but all of the technological advances - they would probably think you were nuts.

We might not find all of the answers in our lifetimes, but what fun would that be? I think, like all generations, we may find some, or we may not, but we'll continue to move humanity closer to an understanding of our place in the universe, and that's nothing to get depressed about.
