An aliens taste in music

Japans Underground Robot Army
Doesn't get mmore freewheeling than this folks. If you met with an alien or aliens and were given the choice to show them one album, what would it be?

Personally, I think I'd have to go with King Crimson's "In the Court of the Crimson King" or Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon".

I think I'm going to be made fun of for saying it, but... Moby.

I picked up the "I Like To Score" CD, and have to say that there are a few tunes on there that are pretty damned good.

Not to mention, Moby says that we're all made of stars.

Well it would have to be interesting ... which unfortunately
anything with long guitar solos or anything Pink Floyd ... or Radiohead (what a whiner) ... so something they would understand ... like Bjork or the Apex Twin.</P>
And quite probably it would have to be electronic ... which means no Hendrix (oh dear what a shame) ... no Led Zeppelin (oh but he has really stupid hair and sounds like he accidentally put his testicles into a blender) and so something like "Pocket Universe" by Yello would fit the bill.

Nothing dreary ... which means no Prog Rock ... and it would have to be uplifting ... and not in a horrible British film about dockers who take up naked crotcheting or something. It would have to be ecstatic ... so something by Billy Mackenzie (see Country Boy) or something like the long version of "Number One Song in Heaven" by Sparks.

So there we go ... I'm right and you're wrong ... so nothing changed there then :D

If you ask a newager- they'd probably tell you that ETs would like Enya or some crap like that. Or John Tesh. The aliens looovvveee John Tesh.

Ask a 'dude' and he'll say Ronnie James Dio or Mettalica.

Ask a 'homey' and he'll say 2Pac.

Me... I'd make them a mix tape.

most definitely, but you could add Alan Parsons to that, Pyramid Project or Moody Blues Legend of a Mind, Supertramp's Crime of the Century..

oh, what the heck, this selection on a mixed cd.(not tape, sheesh, what was I thinking?)

Hendrix with Electric Ladyland would be my choice, though a little something by Beethoven or Mozart might be a better way to communicate who we are.

Peace,

Mark

To say that most humans reflect the beauty, grace, and stature pf Beethoven or Mozart is certainly speaking highly of our species.

If I wanted to play something that reflected who we are as a species, I think I'd be pretty stuck. Yeah, that's a toughie.

Or lowly of his music. There's also boredom in their music.

Alvin and the Chipmunks is the correct answer folks.

This kind of thing says more about who we Earthlings are. No aliens could do this.

that's a video of my good buddy playing one of his originals. Click his channel to see more of his work as I think we're all gonna know this kids name in a few years.

Point taken Gen, very subtle. Particularly the first clip (lots of reasons).

I was coming at it more from the point of view of the relationship music has with math, and from there the probable recognition of that by some alien entity. I suggest Mozart in particular for that reason, as from what I understand, his music often contained what one might refer to as musical jokes, or conundrums that someone with the requisite knowledge and skill would recognize as mathematical games, if you will.

That's not to say that other forms of music contain any less vibrant a picture of what the performer is trying to get across. It just seems to me that the western european classical form might be the easiest form to interpret. Who knows?
All of this is coming from someone who dosen't actually listen to much
classical music, though I do like some.
Rock and Roll, that's what does it for me and a myriad of other styles, and long live it all.

Music is one of mankinds greatest gifts. It is hugely important to me, and
the best shortcut I know to another mans soul, and maybe, just maybe another "Soul" Man. :D

Thanks for starting this thread methshin, got a riff out of of it.

Cheers. :)
