Abraham Hicks

Tyger

Paranormal Adept
Anyone else into Abraham Hicks? :) It's about manifestation - a very ancient 'science' that emerged into the light of day in the early 19oo's - New Thought Movement. Mary Baker Eddy's Christian Science is an off-shoot. Innumerable proponents - so many names. Famous one was Neville Goddard (1940's). Most recent motivational speaker/writer to quote Neville was Wayne Dyer. In the 1970's there was David Spangler out of Findhorn. Lots and lots of people speak of this 'mystery' as disparate as Ralph Waldo Emerson and Goethe.

Now there is Esther Hicks who is 'bringing through' a consortium of individualities that go by the moniker Abraham. A pretty seamless presentation of a way of seeing 'manifestation' that used to be taught in the 'secret societies' - the Rosicrucians, for example.

This has resonance - now - with what is emerging in science, regarding the influence of the mind.

Abraham Hicks is giving 'the lived experience'. Here's an example of the philosophy -

Abraham Hicks: Get Control of your Thoughts and Your Life Will Be Changed Forever

EDIT: I will be posting more historical context for what Abraham-Hicks is saying, but there is also this thread that will be going into where these ideas come from and what consequence they have in real world terms: Consciousness and Manifestation

I think most who find manifestation a puzzling pov (or theory) will find the following dialog in the video between Abraham (Esther Hicks) and a very articulate, embittered man to be dead-on with their own questions. I offer it here as a final posting on manifestation.

There are some that approach subtle disciplines with all the nuance of a sledge hammer: Prove your magic! Manifest on the spot! Any actual investigation of esoteric stuff and one cannot avoid the fact that inner work is required before such can take place and even then, must follow certain 'laws' - or ''rules' - related to our current position on the space-time line, or universe (however one characterizes existence). There is such a wealth of information readily available - even of Abraham. Always keep in mind: you will never have to pay for esoteric information; money will never be asked for by a legitimate spiritual/esoteric teacher. You will never have to pay money to get the information you need at any juncture in your life - attending a workshop does cost money but a legitimate teacher will make their information available outside pay-venues (even if they also have pay-venues). Keep that in mind. The economic systems human beings devise are not spiritual, are not essential to who we really are on this planet. That being so, those who understand what is really afoot with manifestation will understand how truly liberating and 'cutting edge' this pov really is. It is also quite ancient - it can be found in most all philosophies - but it is generally not seen because our focus is on what is already manifested. It's a huge block in all our thinking - and in the end, manifesting.

The Biggest Missing Piece

TEXT: "An embittered and disillusioned anonymous man confronts Abraham on the simplicity and naïveté of their teachings."

NOTE ADDED: For clarity -

Unfortunately because spiritual/esoteric claims aren't provable there's no way to determine whether or not they're "legitimate".
There are ways to confirm the claims. They most assuredly are provable, but the way that its done requires an inner discipline the doubter refuses to engage. A choice. Honesty would require (I think) an admission made publicly that the doubter chooses not to enter into the discipline.

The expressed sentiment is also an endless tape-loop because the actual text is never read or (if read) does there appear to be any understanding of the text supplied. A point comes when further discussion (if any was attempted to begin with) becomes fruitless. Why engage? [Note: The mere expression of a pov does not encumber anyone to respond.]

For consideration -

For centuries humans did not identify the color 'blue'. Did they not see the color blue? At some point the color blue started to be identified, teased out from the whole sensory 'seeing' gestalt - though 'blue' was initially called 'purple' (see Greeks). Nuances followed.

In a world of the color-blind, if one human sees the physical colors of the world (rather than just seeing shades of grayness) does that then mean the colored world does not exist? How does the color-sighted human 'prove' to the blind man that color exists?

Reports are coming from those who do see (and sense) something beyond the (current) norm. It is reasonable that those who do not see may choose to disregard the reports, but hectoring those reports is a sign of ignorance at best, akin to the color-blind hectoring of the color-sighted.

So whether someone charges or doesn't charge is irrelevant to that particular concept of 'legitimacy'.

A swerve off course (per usual). The point of legitimacy was being made to indicate that genuine esoteric knowledge is never a commodity that is bought and sold. Actually, it could be (certain exercises, for example, but even those become 'pearls before swine' when read by the ignorant) - however, the karmic costs for such behavior would be too harrowing to contemplate. Anyone doing so - IMO - would have to be consorting with the Left-Hand Path - in itself a warning. Point being, when the student is ready the teacher appears - and does not ask for money. If the teacher does - and the knowledge is based on occult facts - then one needs to seriously consider the origin, who one is dealing with: Left or Right, Black or White Magician, etc. Just be aware, and be forewarned.

On another level, just because it's all based on subjective beliefs, experiences, and opinions rather than facts doesn't necessarily make spiritual/esoteric ideas worthless.
A fascinating statement, riddled with beliefs and complicated rationales, the paramount one being regarding 'facts'. Tease that one out. For the discerning. Not a simple matter. Part of the
discipline.

Keep in mind that materialism has a religious substrate (coming out of Medieval thinking as it does) - riddled with assumptions that are not rooted in 'facts' at all. If the materialist only knew. It's a house-of-cards. In many ways it's an outmoded pov. Science is moving on.

Recommend the book 'The Quantum Revelation' by Paul Levy that Sting has said 'is mind-blowing.' :)

"To say Quantum Physics is the greatest scientific discovery of all time is not an exaggeration. In their discovery of the quantum realm, the physics community stumbled upon a genuine multifaceted revelation which can be likened to a profound spiritual treasure - a heretofore undreamed of creative power - hidden within our own mind. Quantum physics unequivocally points out that the study of the universe and the study of consciousness are inseparably linked, which is to say that ultimate progress in the one will be impossible without progress in the other.

"Einstein declared that what it reveals is so immensely important that 'it should be everyone’s concern.' Yet few of us in the general public truly understand how the game-changing discoveries of the past century not only relate to our day-to-day lives, but also give us insights into the nature of reality and our place within it.

"Written for readers with no physics background, Paul Levy’s latest book, 'The Quantum Revelation: A Radical Synthesis of Science and Spirituality' is for those who have heard that quantum physics is a fascinating subject but don’t quite understand how or why. Levy contemplates the deeper philosophical underpinnings of quantum physics, exploring the fundamental questions it provokes: What does it mean that quantum theory has discovered that there is no such thing as 'objective reality?' How are we participating—via our consciousness - in creating our experience of a reality that quantum theory itself describes as 'dreamlike?' What are the implications for us in our day-to-day lives that - as quantum theory reveals - what we call reality is more like a dream that we had previously imagined? 'The Quantum Revelation' is unique in how it synthesizes science and spirituality so as to reveal and explore the dreamlike nature of reality. It is a book not just for people interested in quantum theory, but for anyone who is interested in waking up and dreaming lucidly, be it in our night dreams or our waking life."

Abraham Hicks is an interesting facet of a changing psychological gestalt. It is 'cutting edge' - and for sure not for everyone. If one listens and understands, it is for you. If one does not, pass on. It need not concern you - least of all to hector, or denigrate. The past is authority driven with top-down power structures, There is a keen need to have everyone 'think the same' from the outside in - and in a certain way this is not an unreasonable wish - it's just that how that is effected is changing (because human consciousness is changing - we are evolving) and in the throes of such change it is always chaotic. What comes is each being their own authority - proving for themselves, not for others (the authority is from the inside out). This is not about convincing, but engaging the inner discipline and effecting the change that reveals What IS. Going alone yet one emerges into the same place - that is the 'proof'. It is a very dynamic future we are entering - and it's nature, what it will be like to live and experience, cannot be fathomed with the old archaic tools of scientific materialism.

Much of the arts is based on pretty much the same thing, but what one person thinks is garbage is considered talent by others.
This is the relativism of materialist thinking. It is a tape-loop that reaffirms itself. It's a wheel within a wheel. There is no escape except by identifying the mind-trap.
In this context we might say a spiritual/esoteric teacher isn't legitimate if they don't really practice or believe what they teach or preach, but if people are gullible enough to send them money anyway, then it's their money to blow.
Again, the writer has not really grasped what is being said and reverts to the same tape-loop. No one is discussing 'practicing what one preaches' or sending money to anyone. Discourse is impossible because there appears to be no capacity to enter into the thinking of a different pov using the 'as if ' - a skill that every scientist needs , of whatever persuasion. The result is the conversation keeps to the same age-old age-worn path of facile assumptions. So it goes.
