Understanding UFO Reality — or Something Like That
By Gene Steinberg

If I were to ask you, as a listener to The Paracast, just what UFOs are, what would you tell me? Spaceships?

Well, that’s the easiest and most common explanation, at least so far as the conventional wisdom is concerned. While it’s way beyond what we can manage, it doesn’t take much of a stretch of one’s imagination to accept the possibility that one or more advanced civilizations may have spawned on other planets.

Since our scientists have been looking into the prospects of faster-than-light travel, specifically warp drives (a la Star Trek), one supposes that, too, has been developed already somewhere out there.

So for whatever reason, if only to satisfy their curiosity, they visit us from time to time. Or more than time to time, since there have been many thousands of sightings over the decades. Indeed, you’d think we are a popular tourist attraction considering the presence of so many strange flying things doing their things.

But what’s the purpose of just flying around anyway? How about the cat and mouse games with conventional Earthly aircraft? What about entities or beings taking soil samples and sometimes even kidnapping humans for one purpose or another?

Yes, I know that some abductees actually feel warm and fuzzy towards their abductors. Maybe that’s symptomatic of the Stockholm Syndrome, where the victims support what their captors were doing with them.

What about people who claim to have received peace and love messages from ETs or other forms of higher beings?

And if ET isn’t extraterrestrial, just where are they from, assuming they are physical beings from somewhere?

One might suggest the multiverse, that there are one or more parallel worlds out there — an Earth 2 or Earth 3 for example — and it’s possible to travel from one to the other and back again. This might explain why some UFOs appear to blink in and blink out again, an airborne light switch.

But that assumes a physical reality, that a physical flying machine is making a dimensional jump. The mechanism behind that method of transportation doesn’t matter, at least for now. It’s beyond what our scientists can manage in 2023.

That doesn’t mean we won’t someday figure out how it works, assuming it exists and it’s a technological process.

But it may well be that there are fixed entrances or portals between realities that operate by some universal process that we cannot control. Whether in fixed locations or moving around, if you happen to find one, you can take advantage of its benefits. It may even be that the process can be measured, thus exploited.

On the other hand, UFOs may be holograms projected by an unknown force. When turned off, they just disappear.

I’m making leaps here, big leaps, so bear with me.

Yet another theory has it that our visitors have traveled through time, possibly from the future. That raises all the potential conflicts that might occur if a traveler mistakingly changes something in the past.

This “grandfather effect” would mean, for example, that if you killed your grandfather before his son, your dad, was born, you would not exist.

Consider the scene from the 1985 sci-fi comedy, “Back to the Future,” where protagonist Marty McFly upsets the occasion when his parents meet and fall in love. In order to, basically, prevent the “forces” from ending his existence, he has to somehow change the past and get his mom and dad together.

Of course, fixing what went wrong with reality isn’t necessarily a perfect process. When he returns to his own time, his parents are quite different from what he remembers. It’s a positive change, but still a change.

The imperfection of repairing damage to the timestream is a not uncommon schtick employed in other sci-fi movies and TV shows. Indeed, there was a superhero series, “Legends of Tomorrow,” based on that concept. It featured a band of Grade B super heroes who rode across space in time in a vessel known as a “Waverider.”

Their imperfect attempts to right wrongs in the timestream often ended up messy, meaning they’d have make new attempts to repair the damage.

Then there was a movie and TV series entitled “Timecop,” which featured a special organization, the Time Enforcement Commission, which was created to seek out criminals and arrest them before they change history.

So does that represent the potential dangers of traveling to the past?

Not quite. Yet another theory has it that time is fixed, and that the trip to the past is preordained, thus the past cannot be changed. Another possibility: that such changes, in turn, generate new realities that persist and survive the consequences of the alterations to the timestream. The original timestream remains intact.

But maybe none of this is physical. UFOs are manifestations of a collective unconscious that uses cultural archetypes to take on different shapes and behavior. An extension of this theory is co-creation, where we each maintain and alter the illusion.

Consciousness — what a concept!

While not necessarily a theory that has been proven, I recently read a fascinating article in Popular Mechanics entitled, “Your Very Own Consciousness Can Interact With the Whole Universe, Scientists Believe.”

I’m not providing the link because the article is behind a paywall, meaning you how to subscribe to the magazine, or, perhaps, to Apple News+ in order to read it.

Now I won’t necessarily say I cheated (the wrong parties might be reading this), but I happened to select the Reader View option in Apple Safari on my iMac, and the full text of the article appeared. But, I’m still not providing the link; feel free to Google it.

Also, you may need a more than a cursory understanding of quantum physics to grasp the theory, and I can’t say I fully understood what the scientists in question are trying to do. But it’s clear it’s controversial and highly disputed.

But if you consider the consequences, if reasonably on point, is that we may indeed all be connected on some subatomic level in this universe. How would that impact paranormal phenomena, life, death, religion, individual choice? And that’s just a start.

Besides, even if we understood the process, are living beings able to consciously interact with this universal, god-like force? It’s the mystery of existence.

When I think of it, I recall the statement sometimes made by controversial sci-fi and paranormal writer and editor Ray Palmer. He wrote, “Flying saucers are here to make us think.”

Think about what? Our future? The next step in evolution? What?

Inquiring minds want to know.
