Gene Steinberg and Christopher O'Brien "Talk Shop" on The Paracast

Special Announcement: The Paracast is heard Sundays from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM (Central Time) on the GCN radio network.

The Paracast Humbly Requests Your Donations: Although ads help cover a small part of our expenses, the income they produce is never enough. Also, we do not receive any revenue from the ads placed on the show by our network. So we hope you'll be willing to help fill the gap if you can to help us cover increasing server costs and other expenses -- or perhaps provide a little extra cash for lunch. No contribution is too small (or too large :). We have a Donate link on our home page, below the logo and audio player. There's also a Donate link on our forums, right below our logo. Or just send your PayPal donation direct to sales (at) theparacast (dot) com.

Attention U.S. Listeners: Help Us Bring The Paracast to Your City! Last summer, The Paracast joined the GCN radio network. This represented a huge step in bringing our show to a larger, mainstream audience. Now we want your help to add more affiliates to our growing network. Please ask one of your local talk stations if they are interested in carrying The Paracast. Feel free to contact us directly with the names of programming people we might be able to contact on your behalf. We can't do this alone, and if you succeed in convincing your local station to carry the show, we'll reward you with one of our special T-shirts, and other goodies. With your help, The Paracast can grow into one of the most popular paranormal shows on the planet!

You Can Now Order The Official Paracast T-Shirt: You asked, and we answered. We are now taking orders for The Official Paracast T-Shirt and a collection of other specially customized merchandise. To get your T-Shirt, just pay a visit to our new online store at Welcome to The Official Paracast Store to select your size and place your order. We now also offer a lineup of other premium merchandise featuring The Paracast logo.

How Do You Know You’re Seeing What’s Really There?
By Gene Steinberg

One of the better parts of that otherwise pedestrian science fiction movie, “Contact,” based on the Carl Segan novel, involved the eventual “meeting” between the protagonist, portrayed by Jodie Foster, and ET. Instead of witnessing a typical gray alien, or any other sort of creature from outer space, she saw the image of her late father.

Why opens up a host of fascinating possibilities.

In this case, the alien said that his (or its) form wouldn’t be understood or accepted by humans, and thus it was altered for her benefit. This doesn’t mean that the physical form was changed, only what you think you saw. And it really isn’t important just how this is done. It could be a signal of some sort implanted in the mind of the witness, a disguise of some sort, or perhaps a visual projection.

If you’re a fan of the later Star Trek TV shows, and some of the movies, no doubt you’re familiar with the concept of the “holodeck,” a form of 3D holography created by the onboard computers for recreation and education. To all intents and purposes, the scenery and the players are real. You can touch them, you can feel them, but they are nothing more than simulations. One of the Star Trek programs, “Voyager,” even employed a “holographic doctor,” since a living medical officer wasn’t available.

In passing, the concept was, in part, devised by writer/producer Tracy Torme, who appeared on The Paracast some months to discuss his ongoing interest in the UFO phenomeonon.

Now what science fiction writers imagine may sometimes come true. Those communicators from Star Trek were the forerunners of the today’s flip phones. The handheld computers on the bridge of the Enterprise in “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” are widely regarded as one of the possible inspirations for the iPad.

So what if ET has their own technology that mirrors the concept of a holodeck, only it doesn’t happen within the confines of a controlled environment, but anywhere. So you may see a UFO, perhaps a cigar-shaped mothership from which scout craft emerge. Gray aliens may be seen gathering soil samples. But all of it is not real. You are simply seeing a sort of 3D movie that is designed, for whatever reason, to hide what’s really going on, to point you in a different direction.

So while the UFO soars below the clouds, perhaps some other events are transpiring elsewhere, but your attention has been diverted by that magnificent display. By the same token, when people claim to have been abducted by aliens, or encountered them on an isolated country road early in the morning, it’s all just a projection.

Now this doesn’t mean your consciousness isn’t playing a part in this grand scheme. Perhaps the real visitors, whatever they are, are too frightening to behold. Or just so alien to us that we’d be scared, or otherwise injured, if we saw them in their true form. No, I’m not necessarily referring to the legend of the Madusa in Greek mythology, which tells of a snake-headed womman that, if you look upon her visage, turns you into stone.

Then again, aren’t legends supposedly based, to some extent anyway, on fact? Could there have there once been a creature that could frighten people to death, or otherwise freeze them in their tracks may its mere presence?

This isn’t to say that ET would potentially cause you physical harm if you saw one in their true form. This doesn’t even mean that ET isn’t some sort of humanoid creature, just as abductees and other contactees claim.

The real issue is whether you are witnessing the actual events, when they occur, or something deliberately or otherwise constructed for reasons unknown. Perhaps we do the alterations in our subconscious, perhaps they, perhaps a combination. But it has long seemed to me that, when it comes to the UFO enigma and their possible reality, things aren’t always – or ever – as they seem.

If that’s the case, though, how would it ever be possible to understand the actual event? Or maybe we’re not meant to understand what happens around us, in our dark rooms at night, on a lonely desert, or in the skies as we wait for our plane to land in our destination city.

Thanks, but I don't think I have any more books left in me. Besides, if it was devoted to my experiences, I wouldn't get past the first page. :)
