After The Paracast -- Available exclusively to Paracast+ subscribers on May 15: So Gene mentions the fact that “non-subscribers” of the late Jim Moseley’s “Saucer Smear” newsletter recently received a copy of the October 20, 2012 issue. Now Jim died of cancer before that final issue was mailed, but recently one of his grandkids decided to complete the mailing. Talk about a voice from the past. After reminiscing about the past, the discussion moves to the subject of making too many assumptions about UFO reality. Gene and Chris also talk about skywatches, and possible ways to prepare yourself to see UFOs. Chris recounts some anecdotes about the various skywatch sessions that he has conducted over the years. He also gives some basic advice on equipping oneself for such a session. The segment concludes as Gene and Chris suggest that the witness is at least as important as the event in exploring paranormal experiences and their impact. What about the fact that UFOs appear differently in different countries, different cultures? And what about the “Gene Steinberg UFO Repellant”? Chris also presents an update on his San Luis Valley Camera Project.

Assumptions in UFO Research
By Gene Steinberg
This is a subject I continue to write about, because it goes to the heart of a serious problem. You see, after all these years, we haven’t made very much progress towards figuring out the true cause behind the UFOs.
Some of you might disagree. Some of you, possibly most of you, believe or strongly favor the theory that UFOs are visitors from other worlds. This viewpoint transcends political beliefs. There are liberal believers in UFOs from space, there are conservative believers in UFOs from space, and there are those who hold a whole range of opinions about these subjects, about religion or lack thereof — well, you get the picture.
So when people demand that our governments disclose what they presume to be really known about the flying saucers — or UFOs, or UAPs — they expect that it’s all about spaceships. The truth is out there, and the authorities are keeping the secret from us. How could it be otherwise?
After all, UFO sightings have been cataloged and investigated for decades. To many researchers, we have gone beyond the point of trying to figure out what’s going on, and we have gone into educating the public about our extraterrestrial visitors. What is their purpose here? Are they friendly, hostile, or totally unconcerned about our civilization beyond the needs of pure science?
But isn’t ET already in touch with us? After all, some claim to have met them in some out of the way place, such as a desert, near a country road or, in a peculiar case described in a book some decades ago, at a diner. Regardless, there is the regular presence of space beings that resemble humans to the extent that they are usually undetectable.
There are other reports, in larger numbers, of distinctly alien creatures that, from time to time, abduct Earthlings and subject them to painful physical examinations. Their lack of morality, or disinterest in our well-being, is demonstrated by the fact that they use primitive instruments that seem more designed to inflict as much discomfort as possible.
Indeed, you wonder about the use of old fashioned medical instruments by an advanced race that could probably do everything with sensors that would not harm the subjects of their experiments. Well, unless their technology developed at very different levels. So they figured out how to travel light years across space to visit Earth, they use regular star maps, and their medical science is still stuck in what might be the equivalent of our 19th century.
Yes, I realize it doesn’t make very much sense. This is one of the contractions in the ET belief system. When presumed aliens are engaged in totally illogical or senseless behavior, it is accepted. Well, they are alien after all, and thus we shouldn’t expect them to behave in a way we understand.
So why are they devoting so much time to performing repetitive and panful physical examinations of humans anyway? Is there an alien edict to treat the locals with disrespect, or cause them as much pain as possible to see if they will protest and maybe attempt to strike back?
What’s this all about anyway?
Some abduction researchers suggest that, for whatever reason, ET wants to create a hybrid race that is part alien and part human. The general assumption is that it’s 50/50 or thereabouts. Regardless, is there some defect in ET’s genetic pool that requires merging their stuff with humans for the sake of survival? Are we rescuing ET?
The answer may be more frightening.
Perhaps the aliens want these hybrids — sometimes they are referred to as “hubrids — to infiltrate our society at all levels. The end result is to quietly take over our planet without needing to fire a single shot. One day we will awaken to find that the hybrids are in control, and that we must respond to their edicts.
Well, maybe it’s all about repairing the ills of our society, of which there are many. I would grant that some of you might prefer to see the aliens take over because things are so messy. Maybe they can fix climate change, war, poverty, hunger. But would you want to have outsiders take control of our civilization even if they have the best of intentions?
Now some of those aliens allegedly claim to be members of a race of Space Brothers that are here to spread the way and the truth about loving one another. It’s about persuasion, not control. So they, of course, contact totally innocent and unknown people who have little or no influence on anyone. Well maybe their emissaries gain a few moments of fame as the result of claiming to be spokespeople for higher beings. But the public at large considers them eccentric characters and doesn’t grant them much attention beyond the obvious silliness.
Of course, there is little or no evidence that any of this is true. While people may have vivid memories of abductions or friendly contacts, that doesn’t tell us what really happened to them. It certainly doesn’t prove these other beings, whatever they are, must be telling the truth. Why believe ET?
How do you know it’s ET even if they say so?
To many people involved in the UFO field, claims of contact with ET are often viewed with skepticism. Abductions are taken more seriously because the experience appears to be messier, more realistic, or at least realistic if you assume the aliens are nasty beings that treat us as if they were sociopaths.
Now it may well be that we are being visited. Certainly there is evidence of thousands of exoplanets, worlds orbiting other stars that may have the surface conditions friendly to life. At the same time, if those worlds harbored advanced civilizations, why is there no evidence of their existence, say in the form of radio or television transmissions? That they use different broadcast frequencies than we do? Could it be that we might be alone in the universe, or that life is such a rare commodity that the chances we’ll ever meet up with our counterparts are slim to none?
If that’s the case, how does one explain the almost constant presence of UFOs right here on Earth? Are are there other factors — or forces — involved in the appearance of strange things around us?
