This Week's Episode: Gene and cohost Tim Swartz present a return appearance by Mark Olly, an internationally recognized author, TV producer/presenter, writer, lecturer, broadcaster, musician and artist. His recent book, “The Polychronicon of Merlin, Joseph & Arthur,” is real history and archaeology, not just the invention of creative minds. It reveals incidents and characters as they really were, listed in chronological order, leaving the impression that Britain has always been a very different place to the one painted by popular history. Merlin becomes one of an ancient line of Pythagorean scholars and political visionaries, Joseph of Arimathea a religious dissident fleeing persecution and death to far off foreign shores, Arthur a hardened womanizing battle leader who loses his entire family and culture to war and eventually natural disaster. And what about the legendary search for the Holy Grail?

After The Paracast — Available exclusively for Paracast+ subscribers on March 19: Author and archaeologist Mark Olly joins Gene and cohost Tim Swartz to explore the myths and reality of Robin Hood. According to Olly, his book, "The Life & Times of the Real Robyn Hoode," depicts a genuine historical character whose long life was both similar, and decidedly different, from the versions portrayed in all those famous movies. The result is possibly the most complete genuine framework for the investigation and discovery of a character that represents heroic resistance to powerful and corrupt authority the world over, but who appears here as a solitary mortal man with all his human failings. And it appears those Merry Men were, by and large, mostly genuine people. This voyage of discovery reveals hidden mysteries of the true power of the north at the time of the founding of democracy through the Magna Carta 800 years ago.

UFO Disclosure Breadcrumbs
By Gene Steinberg

If you believe the promises made by UFO disclosure advocates over the years, we’d have long ago known that we are being visited by extraterrestrials. No, not what you see in most sci-fi films and TV shows about the arrival of such visitors on Earth.

Instead, people with those expectations want you to believe that ET is mostly a peaceful lot, and that they are eager to know us, despite our shortcomings. I mean, isn’t it true that people who claim contact with space people, higher beings, what-have-you, are always told they are here to help us rather than to harm us?

Then again, if they want to talk to us, why limit such contact to random people in random places? Wouldn’t it be far more useful to make a direct contact to all or most of the people of Earth?

How would that occur?

Well, a massed landing would be a significant step. But if you remember ET’s arrival in the 1996 sci-fi blockbuster “Independence Day,” such an arrival may not portend positive results. But it sure would gain attention.

And it would be quite unlike what was depicted in the 1951 sci-fi classic, “The Day the Earth Stood Still.” There our visitor, Klaatu, and his pet robot, Gort, emerged from a landed flying saucer in Washington D.C. All right, Gort wasn’t such a friendly sort if it or his companion were threatened, but otherwise it kept mostly to itself unless Klaatu gave it some commands.

The film’s producers based the film’s plot on the assumption that the United States of America was the capital of the world, and thus the most likely place for a landing to occur.

But that doesn’t mean it can, or should, play out that way. ET might want to take a more subtle approach, perhaps make private contact with the people in the seats of power around the globe and arrange for a proper disclosure that wouldn’t cause much, or any, undue panic.

That assumes, of course, that we’d be recognized as logical beings with which they could safely communicate. If they regarded us as primitive, warlike creatures, they’d be far more respectful of the possible hostile results.

Or maybe they’d just stay away and rely on those random personal contacts to spread the message, in the hope that more Earthlings will eventually begin to pay attention.

Any of these scenarios, or perhaps some combination of same, would be based on a genuine intent to communicate with us. Other than those alleged contacts, which, even if genuine, might have nothing to do with the UFO mystery, they limit their presence mostly to flights of fancy around the globe.

Those who advocate disclosure, however, believe that Earth governments know the truth, but are only withholding it for reasons known to themselves. Perhaps they fear panic, particularly if they come to conclude that ET’s presence may not be entirely friendly. Maybe ET is seeking a quiet takeover, without the possibility of the loss of life and property.

But even if there has been no communication, a careful strategy would have to be devised. That would be quite unlike the way most Earth governments appear to behave, which is to react to a crisis at the last minute with little thoughtful preplanning.

So even if the powers-that-be recognize that there is a strong possibility we are being visited by advanced beings from other planets, that fact may be enough to want to covertly deal with the potential consequences.

We have been conditioned for years, by dint of sci-fi and comic book fare, to expect that our universe is likely populated by many races of intelligent creatures who have advanced enough to have perfected interstellar travel. So maybe that revelation will deliver few, if any, consequences.

But it might, in part, depend on how the authorities treat the matter. In the interests of national security, they’d have to be fully prepared for any eventuality. Disclosure would be the last consideration unless they were absolutely certain our visitors were friendly. But that would probably require some level of direct contact.

In the meantime, a gradual program of disclosure might be best, so we are able to accept the ultimate revelation that ET is among us.

It could involve several efforts.

One might involve announcing the discovery of exoplanets, orbiting other star systems, and whether they can support life as we know it. There are already some candidates, which conveys the possibility that some civilizations might be advanced enough to have devised interstellar travel.

Another might be the gradual revelation that governments are taking UFOs seriously, even if they choose to call them UAPs to seem more credible. Indeed, every development toward that end may be part of the program.

Take that notable article in The New York Times, published on December 16, 2017. Written by Helene Cooper, Ralph Blumenthal and Leslie Kean, it revealed the existence of a secret $22 million program to investigate UAPs.

The reporters make an interesting combination. Cooper is the newspaper’s Pentagon correspondent, and can often be heard delivering news and commentary on cable news shows. Blumenthal, now retired, was the head of the team that won a Pulitzer in 1993 for coverage of the World Trade Center bombing that year.

As regular listeners to The Paracast know, Kean is an independent journalist who has been on the show several times over the years to discuss UFOs. Her 2010 book, “UFOs: Generals, Pilots, and Government Officials Go on the Record,” is regarded as one of the better selling titles on the subject in recent years.

Since that first Times article first appeared, there has been ongoing disclosure of the various Pentagon UAP programs. In recent years, those efforts have become line items on the annual budget. But that doesn’t mean a lot of money is being spent.

It supposedly began with efforts to understand a number of sightings reported by Naval pilots starting in the early 2000s. But there have been many thousands of military sightings over the decades. What made these UAPs any different?

Or maybe the time was right to acquaint the public to the fact that UAPs are being taken seriously. With scientists working with NASA — our space program — to look into the matter, maybe there is reason to be hopeful that some answers will be forthcoming.

Take this story published on March 9, 2023:

“There is a possibility that extraterrestrial motherships and smaller probes may be visiting planets in our solar system, the head of the Pentagon’s unidentified aerial phenomena research office noted in a report draft shared Tuesday.

“ ‘[A]n artificial interstellar object could potentially be a parent craft that releases many small probes during its close passage to Earth, an operational construct not too dissimilar from NASA missions,’ Sean Kirkpatrick, director of the Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, wrote in a research report co-authored by Abraham Loeb, chairman of Harvard University’s astronomy department.”

While the Pentagon’s UAP spokespeople continue to claim that there is no evidence that we are being visited by extraterrestrials, that possibility is clearly not being ignored.

So perhaps we are nearing six years of gradual disclosure by the Pentagon, but it may be so gradual, it’ll take another six years — or longer — for any actual answers to emerge.

Or maybe all of these announcements were made to deal strictly with current situations, not as a part of any special program. Considering how disorganized governments can be, that could be the most likely possibility.

Besides, if UFOs aren’t extraterrestrial after all, but are due to some unknown phenomenon, any truth may just remain out there. And it’ll come no closer.
