Special Announcement: The Paracast is heard Sundays from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM (Central Time) on the GCN radio network.

Here's How You Can Help The Paracast: Although ads help cover a small part of our expenses, the income they produce is never enough. Also, we do not receive any revenue from the ads placed on the show by our network. So we hope you'll be willing to help fill the gap if you can to help us cover increasing server costs and other expenses -- or perhaps provide a little extra cash for lunch. No contribution is too small (or too large :). We have a Donate link on our home page, below the logo and audio player. There's also a Donate link on our forums, right below our logo. Or just send your PayPal donation direct to sales (at) theparacast (dot) com.

Attention U.S. Listeners: Help Us Bring The Paracast to Your City! Last summer, The Paracast joined the GCN radio network. This represented a huge step in bringing our show to a larger, mainstream audience. On July 3, The Paracast will reach millions of listeners in New York City, New Jersey, and Long Island, when we arrive on WVNJ radio. But that's just one recent conquest.

We need your help to add additional affiliates to our growing network. Please ask one of your local talk stations if they are interested in carrying The Paracast. Feel free to contact us directly with the names of programming people we might be able to contact on your behalf. We can't do this alone, and if you succeed in convincing your local station to carry the show, we'll reward you with one of our special T-shirts, and other goodies. With your help, The Paracast can grow into one of the most popular paranormal shows on the planet!

Are the MIB Time Travelers?

By Gene Steinberg

Granted that headline contains several assumptions, and that some may border on the outrageous. However, hear me out. There may be a tad of logic in at least some of this speculative chatter. Or maybe it’s all a flight of fancy.

Now when it comes to the reality behind the so-called Men In Black, the jury is still out. Forgetting the graphic comic book, and those comical movies featuring Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones and, if he can stay out of jail, the irrepressible Rip Torn, is there a kernel of truth to claims about the existence of such an agency?

If you go back through the so-called “modern” UFO era, you’ll find the presence of possible MIB in the infamous Maury Island Case, involving a UFO that allegedly ejected metal debris while flying over the state of Washington. In the early 1950s, one Albert K. Bender, leader of an worldwide flying saucer club, shut down, claiming that the MIB visited him, told him he had come too close to the truth about the phenomenon and must cease operations immediately.

Some years later, maybe only to stop people from constantly annoying him about what really happened, Bender wrote a book, “Flying Saucers and the Three Men,” in which he claimed the MIB were emissaries from another planet. Or maybe a routine FBI investigation of flying saucer clubs so spooked Bender that he imagined all sorts of events that had little or no reality.

Over the years, you’ll find indications that some people have been running around the countryside terrorizing UFO witnesses. Some claim to be government agents, but at the end of the day, how would you know? Credentials can be forged, and the mere presence of stern gentlemen wearing black suits and sunglasses might be enough to frighten people who’d otherwise demand proof of their identity.

One suggestion, made during our recent conversation on The Paracast with author Nicholas Redfern, author of “The Real Men in Black,” is that the MIB might be an agency of future era time cops who return to the past to repair temporal damage caused by, shall we say, the bad people from the future. So an event occurs that might change the future, thus summoning the MIB to set things right.

The logical conflict here is what might happen if changes are made that, through the centuries, render the MIB nonexistent. How do they cope with such a paradox? Or do they operate “out of time,” ready to go into action as soon as they discover even the attempt at making a critical change. How critical? Well, if someone’s passage through life is altered, the consequences might be immeasurable. Perhaps that person will choose a different profession, mate with a different person. Even a supposedly benign act may have serious unforeseen consequences.

Or maybe that can’t happen, because such actions merely trigger an alternate time stream or reality, so events may proceed differently without affecting the original, unaltered reality. This forms the plot of the reimagined “Star Trek” movie, directed by J.J. Abrams. There an evil visitor from the future performs two singularly destructive acts that turn the universe topsy-turvy. It also creates a reality in which the famous crew of the starship Enterprise may consist of the characters we know and love, but their adventures can be sufficiently different without offending diehard Trekkers who take such lore seriously.

But if any of this was true in our real world (or whatever real world we reside in), could it be that, over time, events in our lives and around us may be altered with only a dim awareness on our parts that something has changed.

On this week’s episode of The Paracast, I recite one instance where my wife and I (along with our, at the time, infant son) sat in my brother’s study in his palatial home in Rumsen, New Jersey. It was 1988, my late father’s will was being read, and it contained a provision in which my son was to receive a modest stipend that he could use for his college education after the financial instrument, a “zero coupon bond,” matured in the year 2000.

Well, after my brother’s death less than a decade later, things changed. My father’s will reportedly no longer contained such a provision, and nobody had a memory of that reading where the bequest was mentioned. Sure, perhaps someone decided to help themselves to that cash, but the sum was so small it would seem the attempt at fraud would make no sense whatever. Remember, my late brother was rather wealthy in his latter years.

Or maybe it’s our memories that are faulty. Maybe it didn’t happen, or maybe something changed around us to alter history.
Yes, it’s easy to conclude a family member or two helped themselves to a little extra cash somewhere along the line and redeemed that certificate. Or maybe, as I said, it happened exactly as I described it here, only not in our present reality.
