This Week's Episode: Gene and cohost Tim Swartz present a return appearance from Brian Young, an open-minded skeptic, who is a researcher, writer, historian, lecturer and podcast host. He specializes in boxing history, Victorian crime, with a focus on The Whitechapel Murders (Jack the Ripper) and has had a life-long interest in the weird, the wild and the paranormal. Brian will be discussing with The Paracast team the latest revelations from the alleged Pentagon "UAP Whistleblower" David Grusch, and whether his claims can be taken seriously. The discussion will also turn to those "Ripper" legends, real or fake, and pop culture, with a special emphasis on those early movie serials, especially those about super heroes, that used to attract children to the movie theater. He is co-author of the critically acclaimed book "The Wrestlers Wrestlers': Masters of the Craft of Professional Wrestling" (2021 ECW Press) and is co-host of "Transatlantic History Ramblings", an international podcast hosted out of The United States and Wales UK.

After The Paracast — Available exclusively for Paracast+ subscribers on July 9: We present outspoken author/commentator/podcaster Brian Young for a special pop culture episode. Brian joins Gene and cohost Tim Swartz to discuss, among many topics, the apparent failure of super hero movies in the first part of 2023, including "The Flash," along with the tepid box office performance of "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny." Have the movie studio executives misjudged the demand for such fare? Does the public still care about such long-standing film/TV franchises as "Star Trek" and "Star Wars"? In his "civilian life," Brian is co-host of "Transatlantic History Ramblings," an international podcast hosted out of the United States and Wales UK. He also specializes in Boxing history, Victorian crime, with a focus on The Whitechapel Murders (Jack the Ripper) and has had a life-long interest in the weird, the wild and the paranormal. He is co-author of the critically acclaimed book "The Wrestlers Wrestlers': Masters of the Craft of Professional Wrestling" (2021 ECW Press).

Be Careful What You Wish For
By Gene Steinberg

Can you just imagine the public’s reaction?

Can you just imagine what UFO believers might say?

So here’s an imaginary scene, but one that disclosure advocates have dreamed about for many many years:

There’s an announcement that the President of the United States will deliver an important prime time address from the Oval Office. Unlike most speeches of this sort, his aides do not deliver an advanced text, or even a summary. But there is a hint, that what will be said may impact the entire world.

Speculation is rampant. Is there the possibility of war with, say, Russia, or China? The world is always unstable?

Is it possible the President, getting on in years, is planning to resign? How will putting the Vice President in charge impact current policies, the next election?

That evening the President says nothing about leaving office. The announcement is brief, and no questions will be accepted. All of the accompanying information will be provided in writing, prepared by the White House press office. But after the address is over.

No, I’m not going to come up with some suitable quotes for this mythical event. I’ll just summarize the essentials.

So the President briefly describes the search for life in outer space, that there are growing indications of the presence of extrasolar planets that may have conditions suitable for life as we know it.

He summarizes the worldwide sightings of UAPs that have occurred over the decades or even centuries, that the number of these reports increased shortly after the end of World War II. The advanced maneuverability of these craft is cited, along with the claim that there is no evidence that their presence goes much beyond that of surveillance. They do not exhibit confirmed signs of hostility.

He reveals the conclusion, that the Earth is being visited by one or more advanced civilizations from other planets. The President makes it clear that world leaders have been consulted, and scientists are working to understand the technology and perhaps learn from it.

A religious President might just say that all living creatures in the universe are God’s creations too, and we should respect that.

Now I’m positing a situation here where there has been no communication with extraterrestrials, but I’ll grant that, if UFOs are spaceships, there may have been contact. Abductions? I suspect an initial announcement wouldn’t mention them, except to say these reports are still under investigation.

Of course there are potential areas where some information will be withheld, beyond basic interactions with extraterrestrials. If any of it involves giving permission to abduct some Earthlings for experimentation, with the promise of no permanent harm, nobody in power, or in the know, would admit to such a thing.

I am avoiding the possibility that the President would introduce an ET or provide videos of the craft or the crew. I am keeping the reveal simple, straightforward, with little flourish.

But what about the reaction?

We all know that this is a highly polarized world. When it comes to politics, there are at least two sets of facts and beliefs in the U.S.. I’m not going to argue what to believe beyond what I’ve written in The Paracast Forums.

So I would not be surprised to see a healthy number of people in the U.S. absolutely disbelieve this announcement. “He’s not even the real President,” some might say. Or those in favor of widespread conspiracies might suggest that it’s all part of a scheme to control the population for evil, possibly unspecified reasons. It’s the “secret government” about to act.

You get the picture.

On the other hand, consider that the U.S. government has supposedly been lying to the public for decades, from the early days of the modern UFO era. They have used all sorts of excuses to explain away sightings of unknowns, such as illusions, delusions, conventional aircraft, stars, planets, railroad lights, and so on and so forth.

Across the years, there have been sometimes emotional demands for disclosure. The assumption has been that the governments know the truth, and that we can handle it.

But there’s a huge contradiction here, and it’s not just the polarized environment. If you assume you are being lied to, why would you believe a statement that reveals a different answer? If you didn’t believe them when they continued to announce that there was no evidence that UFOs are spaceships, why believe them now when they insist that they are?

This can raise a host of possibilities. Other than being the result of some unspecified political machinations to take over the government, there might be speculation that this is just a part of the story — and not the best part.

Some people might believe that we are being misdirected to a more benign solution because there is evidence that our alien visitors really plan to take us over. We have no defense, and if we just let it happen without protest, millions of lives will be saved. Perhaps ET has promised a level of local autonomy, and perhaps even worldwide peace in exchange for ceding control.

It sort of reminds me of the two TV miniseries, “V,” in which evil reptilian aliens arrive on Earth and claim to be here to help us advance and become better beings. Instead, they really plan to quietly assume control. By accepting them without conflict, they can assert their power without opposition.

Indeed, that possibility is not far removed from one of the UFO abduction conspiracies, that ET is using humans to create a hybrid race. Over the years, these hybrids will quietly ascend to positions of power, perhaps in Earthly governments. One day we will awaken to discover that the aliens are not just among us, but that they are our rulers.

But let’s get to the bottom line: I have no doubt that there is a genuine UFO mystery that cries out for a solution. But that doesn’t mean Earthly governments have guilty knowledge of the cause. This mystery has persisted for decades, possibly centuries if you examine the older reports.

Long and short is that those in authority may not even know what’s going on and might find it easier to dismiss it all, that the sightings would all have conventional explanations if we had enough information.

In other words, that imaginary scenario of the President revealing an extraterrestrial presence on Earth will never happen, not in our lifetime, not ever. As much as some of you wish otherwise, that’s the way it has been so far. Why should it change?
