Will We Live to See Disclosure?

The Paracast has listeners ranging from teens to senior citizens, most sharing the hope that there will soon be a solution to at least some of the mysteries that we cover on a regular basis. Some of you, I suspect, are also expecting “Disclosure,” which is the expected revelation from the governments in various countries that UFOs are real, extraterrestrial, and we may as well learn to accept the truth.

That, however, is a fervent wish that has remained unfulfilled for decades. In the early works from the late UFO investigator, Major Donald E. Keyhoe, he went on at length as to why we’d be able to accept such a revelation without serious impact to our society. He believed that we were always on the verge of Disclosure, and he hoped that congressional hearings would cause that to happen.

Over a decade after he first expressed those thoughts, there were congressional hearings in the wake of a major UFO flap in Michigan. It resulted in the Condon Report, which essentially whitewashed the UFO mystery. Officially, the government was out of the business of investigating flying saucer reports, although Freedom of Information documents recovered over the years revealed an ongoing interest.

It is also true that loads of UFO sightings have been released by other countries, but there is, so far, no smoking gun in those reports, however compelling they might seem.

At the same time, there are active Disclosure movements in the UFO field, run by people that are no doubt sincere, but have different agendas and expectations. Some hope to push the process forward with extravagant claims about alleged U.S. government interactions with ET and why the Obama administration -- and previous administrations for that matter -- have kept a policy of secrecy in place.

The problem I have with some of these Disclosure supporters is that their claims not just seem outlandish on the surface -- and below the surface for that matter -- but that they have no evidence to prove their contentions. Sure, talk is cheap. They are entitled to their points of view, but I just don’t buy all or most of their claims.

This also takes us to the crux of my issues with the Disclosure movement. Rather than deliver real evidence that strange things are happening in their publications and live events, they bring on people with wacky, unsupported claims. They fail to understand that they have a serious image problem. If the movement is perceived as being supported by fringe elements in the UFO field, the media will just regard the whole thing as a joke. It doesn’t take much to turn potentially favorable coverage into bad, or change the expressions of a news anchor from that of seriousness to a knowing wink.

Yes, I know there have been press conferences held by such dedicated people as Leslie Kean and James Fox. They should be commended for their hard work and the compelling nature of the information they provide. They deserve success.

However, so long as those lunatic fringe elements are involved, their efforts are destined to be thwarted at each and every turn. That’s unfortunate, because it just reduces the possibility that we’ll come close to learning what the government really knows, assuming there is actually significant secret information to be had.

I’m of two minds on this question, though. Yes, I think it’s possible that the sprawling intelligence apparatus is definitely harboring significant evidence about UFOs. There may even be a secret UFO study program in place. Or they may know absolutely nothing about what’s really going on, except that it doesn’t seem to represent a potential threat to national security. If that’s the case, a head-in-the-sand approach is to be expected.

But it also means a magical, mystical disclosure process probably won’t happen soon -- or ever.
